Do the eaviis actualy hand pick all the bands to play or is there some sort of "booking commitee" for each of the many stages? I mean I would imagine M or E pick the top 2 or three acts each day on the Pyramid and other stage but what about the bands lower down the bill and also the acoustic tent, JP stage, Jazz World etc?

I think you have answered that one by yourself.

Not all the stages are run by the Eavii anyway and with 40+ stages you cant expect them to be running the whole show and doing every single bit of act picking themselves.

Micheal has his influence no doubt, The Park is Emily's baby, a lot of the rest of it who knows, but the list is pretty big whoever they are.

The guys who do Glade festival do or certainly used to do the Glade stage lineup and I think they do a lot of the dance village instead.

Pretty much each stage has it's own booker, am sure Neil will be able to expand on that

Correct.

Each stage is run as its own little empire - so has it's own booker.

However, the Pyramid, Other & JP stages are sort-of booked together - they used to all be done by the same booker, but for the last two years the Pyramid has been done or mainly done by Emily and her husband Nick.

Also, Eavis has a bit of an over-sight role, with him suggesting acts and sometimes telling stages that they have to have one or more of 'his' acts - I know that Joan Armatrading on Jazzworld a couple of years ago was his doing (and a very good one!), for example.

I know a lady called Anne controls the bookings for the Park stage, she's part of Festival Republic. As far as I'm aware anyway, I seem to remember her telling me that when I met her.

" I will take 50 of your best white boy indie bands ! " in a sort of block booking !

If ever you see any of them interviewed or quoted in a article they have a good idea of who they want or would like to see appear on certain stages and must have a payment strategy in place for certain slots on the bill then i suppose it's "bookers" go get em. Although i think with U2 was he quoted as having spoken to them and booked them himself at some awards do?. Then again if you were in a band and ME rang you personally it would be hard to turn him down.

Michael and Emily (prior to her taking over the Pyramid programming with her husband) just throw up some suggestions. The 'bookers' are more than just bookers, they're stage programmers - so they then look into the viability of the suggestions, decide if those suggestions fit with the programming they're planning, and if they do go and find out if they're available and book them if possible.

Michael and Emily (prior to her taking over the Pyramid programming with her husband) have limited involvement in the acts that appear.

The guy that books JP also books The Other stage. I met him this year backstage JP and I can't remember his name... Pretty neat job to have though!

Martin Elbourne. He's also involved in the bookings for at least two other festivals, and was one of the original founders of WOMAD when he used to work for Peter Gabriel.
