According to this site Glastonbury is canceled because all the police are busy at the Olympics?

Yup its cancelled :(

After poor ticket sales this year, Eavis has had to take the unfortunate decision to cancel the 2012 festival.

Not cancelled.  Just happening a year earlier instead.

I think 2011 was originally planned as the Fallow Year but they decided to run on with one more before taking the break in the Olympics Year.  So, no, not Glastonbury cancelled - quite the opposite - Glastonbury happening in 2011 instead of it being a year off.

100% correct. in fact it's very old news. ME stated a year or so ago that the fallow year would be put back one year to 2012 [so as not to clash with the olympics...in my view, to give the olympics the chance to not lose fans to glastonbury, lol]. i saw ME in early september, after the pilton party, where he reiterated his original statement i.e. he didn't say 'we're cancelling it in 2012.' he did, however, say 'i don't know how long we can go on for'.

I don't really get why this is being asked about when it has been mostly common knowledge for such a long time.

Common knowledge to you young festival goer and poster extraordinaire!

However given the papers have nothing to report at the moment, they are recycling news of old.  This recycled news is then picked up by the web, published a million times and before long it is again news as the TV will broadcast the story by running it as a late news item as they are short of things to report on as well.

I an guessing that if some "new news" does not come along soon the headlines will be *victory in Europe, Allies pound the Hun into submission" or similar story...

However you, I and the gate post know this is not "new news" and therefore are not taken in by it, however if you have not been on the ball (such as us and the other readers to this web site) then you would not know it was in fact "old news" and therefore not "new news" and would be chuffed into thinking it was in fact "new news" all along, thus justifying the papers rouse.

But...if people read their Daily Mails, their Times, their Suns and goodness knows what else properly, would they not have picked up in the reporting when the tix sold out the information that would have stated that Glasto 2012 isnt happening? I'm pretty sure I saw it reported not just on this site months ago.

But you are right, I am certainly one of many that does pay attention and is in the know and understanding that Glasto has to have a fallow year and instead of it being next year, Eavis was asked to make the fallow year 2012 for whatever tenuous reasons the Olympics have asked. (It's for the security training and not the Portaloo problems yes? Because if its a Portatoilet issue surely it means that V and Reading and Leeds and every other festival in late August should be cancelled???!!!) ;)
