I am watching the BBC coverage of last years glasto and wishing I was in the middle of a field. I am a yocal and glasto is my first holiday booked every year. Would anyone else turn up if there was no music or just me.

There is music at Glastonbury?

Yes well done. I mean would you turn up just for the people and the atmosphere.

yes i would go even with no music

Yes, it would still be great but not as amazing as it is with the great bands included. However, I do get annoyed by people bragging about how few bands they watch at Glastonbury, like it's some sort of badge of honour.

Yes I know what you mean. I am not ashamed to say I like staying at the pyramid.

every party needs a soundtrack! I'm not sure Glasto would work without music! Rho I tend to find the music is 2nd to anything else going on.

Probs, but i do find it goes hand in hand, compliments each other well
...maybe just with out Pyramid/Other/John Peel
The west holts atmosphere was just fantastic and some really intresting bands. (And theres a tiny stage just round the corner from it, opposite the childrens world cafe, Sensations, top stuff there!)

I would need some music, somewhere, even if it was just the wine bars playing compilation CDs. Music adds to the party atmosphere.
I'd also be very reluctant to spend almost £200 to see a bit of theatre and a few circus acts so the price would have to come down dramatically to make it a realistic non music festival.

Errrr, I'd give it a go but it'd have to be a lot cheaper and I doubt it'd be anything like the same atmosphere.
A huge part of the atmosphere at Glastonbury is the music, the anticipation for people going to see acts they want to see, the chat after, the buzz after a great set. As much as some people seem to think it's a badge of honour to say they didn't watch any music (or that the only music they saw was a 6-man Venezuelan folk combo playing instruments made from potatoes on a tiny stage at 4am there were only 11 of us there but it was amaaaaaaaaazing dahling) the music is a massive part of it.
It wouldn't be the same festival if you took the non-music stuff away so why should it work in reverse?

No music would ruin it. Even when you're not physically watching a band you can't beat the distant thumping of the bass or the impromptu sets on walkways by random bands or even just a man and his guitar!

on the wednesday and thursday you dont get your big stages so i suppose you can get a feel for it on these day by just avoiding the few tents that are open

No

Definitely not. It would be like paying £200 to get into a marketplace/club just so that you can pay for more stuff. Anyone who says yes to this question has more money than sense.

Not a chance that I'd be there without the music. Hell, Glastonbury wouldn't be there for you to go to without the music.

Or just has a different opinion to you?
I'd spend more than £250 (about what ticket, drinks and travel cost me) if I went to a club Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Glastonbury's late night stuff is better than any club (I assume 'without the music' means all the main stages are taken away, not literally no music at all) and I also love camping with my best mates. For those reasons, I'd still go.
