I think Glasto is good for it but on Saturday we spent about an hour just randomly getting directed to different lines and stuff to end up going to a far far too busy Shangri La. I liked the Stone Circle for the random chat.
go early then.

Thursday evening in early dusk was marvellous at SL. Not so touristy and easy to move about and certainly to able to really interact with the villagers/cyborgs/locals and get your head around it properly and spend quality time at some of the attractions. Ok so they are not all open but there was a pretty decent atmosphere in the place.

Unbelievable, i hadn't been to a festival before and my friends had all been to Leeds, T etc... but i remember watching Tom Jones and Blur and thinking WOW! This is where i want to go in 2010, and I took my friends input into festivals and was extra precautionary when going, especially on my own for 2 days, but this place fills you with the best feelings ever and you don't think it will match it and yeah, i was right it didn't match it! it beat it by like 54566363636 times, it was unbelievable, the most friendly place ever, best activities, best food, best value, BEST Place in the world!
i like how you have kiss, leeds festival, enter shikari in your upcoming gigs
and it is Tom Jones who attracts you to glastonbury!

he was fecking great though...

I've been going to Leeds since 99 and pretty much avoided Glastonbury as it just didn't seem the fest for me (far too much "my fest is the best" vibe going on) I finally bit the bullet and went this year aged 28. I must say no words can prepare you for the culture shock that is Glastonbury. You get treated like a person not a customer. The range of things to see and do can't be described. The selection of food and drink is second to none. The After Hours entertainment is better than any city in the world. You can be in one festival but at the same time feel like you're in a different place every ten minutes.

And most of all, the people. The way people seem to be at Glastonbury is unlike they are at the other major fests. Everyone looks out for eachother and is incredibly friendly.

All I can say is definately go to Glastonbury next year and you won't regret it.

I was sort of similar but bit the bullet a lot earlier.

Was very into my rock and metal music for a long period of time and around that era (99-03) only Reading catered for my tastes and could only really afford one big festival per summer back then.

Curiosity got the better of me, and a combination of what I saw on TV and what other mates had said about Glastonbury I decided I had to go at least once, and went in 2004.  Even though the first three I went to were mudbaths I kept going back for more, and finally this year I experienced it completly rain free at the 6th attempt!

I would say its the thing I look forward to each year the most, and I will not know what to do with myself in 2012 when It's not on.  Our little merry band of people that went in 2004 has grown from 6 that year to 26 this year, and everyone keeps wanting to come back.

I think its the whole vibe of the place really, no idots in large numbers, wide variety of music, great eating options (km vegetarian), the amount of stuff you can find going on late night, and the friendlyness of staff and fellow atendees.

I've been to Leeds quite a lot and still love going there as it's my kind of music and I have a good group of mates that I go with, but I'd definitely recommend giving Glasto a try.  Don't expect it to be simply like Leeds without the idiots though as the vibe is completely different.  It's a lot more chilled out and there's a lot more to do besides the music so if you're the kind of person who likes to explore new places, meet new peope and have new expriences it'll definitely be for you.

If you're not sure about it, and you only have the money for one festival, you should try doing what I did this year and sign up as a steward with oxfam.  I did Glasto and Download for free with them, and paid for Leeds, and I only missed about 3 hours of music at Glasto cos of working and got an extra 2 days camping with mates.  Plus you help earn £600k for charity!

What everyone has said about Glasto is true, people are so nice there.  We lost so much stuff between us this year (a bag, my car keys, my oxfam ID, some shoes, a very drunk mate) and all of these were returned to us by various nice people, such is the vibe there!

Having said all this, Leeds was a lot better on the last night this year where we were camped (red c), and Download is always an option if you like heavier music and less trouble.  But I would definitely encourage you to experience Glasto at least once as there's something very different and completely amazing about it.
