I have been looking at all your fantastic photos on here, and was wondering about what camera's people take? There are some really good pics which could only be taken with an expensive camera. When I went to V this year I only took my little compact camera, and although I got some good results they were not brilliant either. 'Snaps' are what I like to call them. My hobby is photography and I have a huge clunky (but fantastic Canon DSLR) but would it be suitable at Glasto? Obviously its not something I would leave in my tent but would it end up being a hindrance (its quite heavy), or get damaged in the crowds? I know a good photographer should take good photo's with any camera but I know I take much better pics with my big boy  :)

What camera's did you lot take? Anyone chance it with a beefcake camera?

Your best option would be to take a fanny pack (gigity), then you can carry it around with you wherever you go and you won't have to worry about it getting stolen or anything. I normally took pictures with my sexy 8 megapixcel camera phone and just carry it around in my pocket. I'm ALWAYS at the front when I see bands especially at the pyramid, other stage, Jon Peel and no one has ever tried to steal it :)

I hauled my D-90 and three lenses and a monopod in a Lowe backpack.  I did put some rubber camera armor on it.  It was occasionally something that I had to pay attention to, but taking photos was a big part of the experience for me so I didn't mind.  I used the lock up's each night on my way back to my tent.

I'd likely not bother with the monopod if I went again, I never really used it.

I'd also not bother with the 50mm lens as swapping lenses in a crowd was not always easy.  So, I'd tend to settle on either my kit 18mm to 105mm or my longer glass which was a 70mm to 300mm and stick with one or the other for a while.

I've posted some of my shots on my blog if you are interested:

I have a lovely 24-105 L lens which I use as my all round lens. But it does add a lot of weight to the camera. I do have a small Tamrac swing around bag which isn't too cumbersome. I used to have a monopod - used it once, never again! lol!

The lock-ups sound a great idea, do they have these dotted around or is it a hike just to get to them to and from the campsite?

Thinking about it, I think I would absolutely cry if anything happened to my L lens so will take a less expensive lens with me if I decide to take my DSLR

You need something with a nice zoom otherwise you will end up with loads of pictures of the back of peoples heads and the screens on the pyramid stage like I do each year. Panasonic Lumix best compact or SLR if you think you can avoid losing / breaking it.........

Just curious as to which Canon DSLR you have.  Is it a full-frame or a crop (APS-C)?  I have the 30D and so use something wider, my best lens starts at 17mm f/2.8.

I have a crop DSLR (full frame a bit too expensive!!). I have a 50D which is brilliant  :)  Might take my kit lens (17 - 85) and zoom lens (can't remember what the range is   )

I get much better results for concert photography with my Panasonic Lumix FZ38 than my DSLR I've noticed, mostly from the extra zoom I think (equivalent 400mm+, 18x). Ditto landscapes with the wider angle, probably won't be taking all the DSLR gear to Glastonbury again I must admit.
