Hi all just a quick note to anyone wanting any camping equipment.

Blacks have a mega sale on at the moment I know it is early but there are some superb deals on offer.

For example I just purchased a 8 berth family tent for £100.  Original markup was £399.

Thought someone may be interested.

Everyone wants a bigger tent. I want a bigger tent. I am the wrong side of forty and six foot with a bad back and want a tent I can stand up in.
But if we all keep getting bigger tents we will soon all end up taking marquees with us.

Sorry for the rant/hijack but space hogs were everywhere this year.

Do you really need that bigger tent? How much time will you be spending at your tent anyway? Tents at Glasto are just for the few hours sleep you need.

Just suppose I bought my family tent for other things than Glastonbury, or do you suggest I put my four year old in a pegged down bin bag?

There are plenty of other stuff on sale too, was only trying to help.

Nothing personal. Like I asked, do you need a bigger tent? If you do then fine.

Sorry, I just have a bit of a thing about having to spend a good couple of hours looking for a spot to camp last year, and ending up miles from anywhere, because the couple I went with took a massive thing with 2 bedrooms and a space in the middle which you could have fitted my tent in and they only used about a quarter of the entire tent. Same goes, I would say from observation, of at least a quarter of the really massive bloody things there.

Like I said, if everyone keeps upgrading their tents, which seems to have happened as festivals have become more popular and tents a lot cheaper, then we will all soon be bringing a circus big top each and where will it end. Will somebody think of the children?  :P

Not sure what irritates me the most actually. Selfish space grabbers or selfish flag wavers or selfish sitting down in my chair at an inappropriate place donkey minded twonkers.

Everything else about Glastonbury is great.

The website says "up to 70% off" but when I look I don't see any tents on sale, or don't they show the before price?  Is it just me

The day the sign for these offers went up in our local Blacks branch, i went to take a look and all these offers had sold out. They must have only had 1 of these 8 berth to get rid of.

I see your point I really do!, I know what you mean by those huge tents that don't seem needed at all. I mean a slight upgrade as sometimes I have to use Public transport for festivals, so I wouldn't want anything much bigger, just maybe one or two berths bigger, so I can fit me, my mate and our stuff in without squeezing everything in, would probs even just got for the next size up in the one I got, so my stuff isn't touching the sides at night incase it rains. Your right of course with some of those monstrous tents.

If it was just me alone, my tent would be perfect but two and two lots of stuff for 5 days, its pretty cramped

There were two 8 berth and one 6 berth left plus other smaller tents available in Derby branch when I purchased.

I am not sure how the website works but my new tent was not even featured on it I think it is just a case of go down to shop and have a look.  Unlucky if you miss out I am not surprised they are selling out at some of the prices.  a mate of mine got two £50(each) sleeping bags for £15(each) which is what I originally went in for but I could not resist the tent I bought as it was such a great deal and as I said I 'needed' it.  I can't think I would have ever got a better deal.

Those that travel in a group say their gazebo only takes up the space that would have been in the middle of their tents anyway. You don't have to camp in a circle that creates an big space in the middle, but to be fair, it's just nice to.

I don't mind that, if they don't mind us having a 5 man tent for the 2 of us. It gives us space to stand up, and space to sit with an outlook (like a gazebo but smaller) if it's chucking it down. We don't spend alot of time at our tent, but a standing space to get wet clothes off is a godsend in a muddy year.

I always had at least a 2 man tent when i was on my own, so a 5 man for the 2 of us doesn't seem that excessive. This year my mum was with us from Friday so that was 3 of us in it and we're hoping there'll be kids before we've finished with it (we don't get a new one every year!).

I can see the level where people may think it's anti social, but I always found being zipped up in my little tent on rainy mornings to be the most anti social (and miserable) I could ever be a Glastonbury. Gazebos and tents that open out can really create a sociable campsite in all conditions, which i think is a good thing.
