and your neighbours will love you
this is the only down side of the camper fields - we have been doing the camper field for 6 yrs now & last year we were surrounded by people who turned their engines on every day one after the other, in one case every morning for an hour +. So it felt like we were camping on the M25 in rush hour being asphyxiated by the fumes. The better (and more neighbourly) thing to do is to use the battery sparingly or if you cant manage that get solar panels.

Agreed.  But it shouldn't be difficult.  We took a trailer tent with just one leisure battery which lasted us the week.  We cooked and ran the fridge on calor so the only time we needed electrictity was for the small amount of lighting, which was 12 volt.  Admittedly we didn't have an electrically driven shower but I can't think what else you'd need electric for.

and just accept, that for a few days, not having every basic home comfort won't kill you.

But simple remedy is to run the engine for half hour each morning, that'll top it up!

Its also a bit of a myth, most campervans have what's called Zig chargers to distribute the electricity, these are next to useless to charge your battery if your split charge relay system is going through this from your engine. Well useless if you want to charge your leisure battery up by starting the engine for an hour or so. Most zig chargers will probably take a good days driving to recharge a leisure battery from the engine.

My mum and my dad are coming with me this year as well as my sister, last year my mum lightly suggested that we take a caravan and me and my mate go off and do our own thing (No way am I sleeping in a caravan and missing out on all the campsite action). Now she is absolutely obsessed with the idea and our house is filled with catalogues on caravans etc.

I do like the idea of having a "proper" bed to go to and a good shower but nothing beats the atmosphere and general friendlyness of the campsites.
