I would say Arcade Fire would easily get a bigger crowd than any of this years Other Stage headliners. They would be on the Pyramid either top or 2nd behind someone like U2. This album will put them on the next level and the fact they're know for there excellent live shows will just add to this.

The Black Keys didn't headline the JP this year, but they should have done. The actual JP headliners this year seemed fairly weak. The previous year was much stronger - Doves, Jarvis Cocker & Echo & The Bunnymen. Are you suggesting they should have weak headliners again next year?
The Other stage has had fairly massive headliners. e.g. Iggy Pop, Prodigy, Masive Attack, Bjork, Chemical Brothers etc. etc.
I see your lol and raise you a

Put it this way, if you think a band big enough to headline Reading and sell out Madison Square Garden twice should be playing the John Peel then I just think you're wrong. There's no accounting for taste but regardless of how you feel about them they're simply too big to headline the JP.
The Other Stage has had big headliners before but a lot of them are dance acts and Arcade Fire have played second top there in 2007 so I think if they came back they'd be on the Pyramid. I'm not saying they're way too big for other stage, I just think that as this album grows on people and they pull out huge performances while touring it it will become inconceivable that they will do anything but headline/sub beneath a legend. I might be proven wrong but I'm pretty confident I'm not.
Plus they have a reputation of stellar live performances.

Don't really know why, they're great - but barely any of my mates know who they are compared to say dizzee playing 2 slots below at R&L- probably the least commercial headliner EVER which isn't a bad thing
Completely agree. Arcade Fire are one of my favourite bands, but I do not know anyone else who knows who there are. They probably wouldn't appeal to many people as they seem to be fairly unknown, although I expect this will change if their new album does as well as I think it will. Saying that, I quite like having a band that I love that not many other people do, feels more special

Did you see the size of the crowd they got when they played the other stage.

Failing to understand why some people reckon they could play the Other Stage next year. Them headlining Reading next month on the back of a new album thats about to get absolutely rave reviews surely indicates that they're too big.
It was Glasto specific;
"For their part, Arcade Fire seem to have been faintly horrified by the Glastonbury experience. "There's something charming about how disorganised and hippy it is even though it's on that level," says Butler, his Texas drawl modulating into a tone that suggests he didn't think there was anything charming about it whatsoever, "but it was a f**king nightmare. It was like a mudpit. You have to drive your truck through the middle of the crowd of -" he pauses, as if grasping for the words to describe the ghastliness "- of shit," he finally decides.
"People are like, throwing up and hitting the doors and things like that. I get the appeal of wanting to get high for the first time and wanting to run round the fields, you know, but that's not necessarily the most engaging experience to me." Parry nods: "We were just, like, what in God's name is this?" "Why would I be here if I wasn't playing?"

I've been a huge fan of Arcade fire for sometime now but I'm less than impressed with the new album.
listened to it 4 times now but no sign of it growing on me yet. I did't take to neon bible straight away so I will keep plugging away at it for sure.

For oxegen apparently only 2000-5000 people showed up to watch them headline
They'll definitely get more exposure as Reading and Leeds headliners and hopefully with their new album out

By the sounds of there was a bigger crowd than 500 as it keeps being said, though admittedly it was still tiny
I think R+L has generated a much bigger buzz about them, and has a crowd much more suited to them
Plus the fact the new album's out I think these shows will be a major event for them

Interesting, have always heard that apparantly they didn't like it last time but never knew what they actually said, so it doesn't look good for them coming back, lets just pray they see what the weather's been like the last few years and change their minds.
I know they probably are big enough now but I just can't see them playing the pyramid for some reason, they seem a more other stage band and I think if they do come back to glasto they'd be top of the other stage bill, which I'd prefer to them headlining the pyramid tbh.

After watching them, hopefully you'll stop mentioning Libertines in the same sentence with them again...
the Madison Square Garden gig tonight on YOUTUBE starts at 3AM UK time. A nice double bill, shame they aren't showing the support act too, SPOON!
album 'The Suburbs' is likely to debut at #1 in US and UK album charts.

The Suburbs is excellent. To hear Deep Blue, Rococo, Ready To Start, Sprawl II etc go out live. Wow.
I personally think they're nailed-on for a top two slot. They will have headlined Oxygen and Reading, so why not Glasto as their final step-up?
Other Stage they'd be too big for.

Whilst I fully believe that Arcade Fire are good enough to headline major festivals I just don't think they have enough well known or immediately catchy tunes to draw in the crowd outside of their own dedicated fanbase. I think the Suburbs is an example of this in that it needs a fair few listens before it gets good.
You ask a random if they have heard of Arcade Fire and they'll say no. Wheras Blink 182, Muse, Radiohead etc they'll know. R+L will be interesting, I'm looking forward to seeing them on the Sunday night in Paris.
