Yeah you can choose those shifts if you like, thats what my friends did but they were all in bed by 11/12 everynight as they were so exsausted, don't think the heat helped.
I don't think they were hardcore enough though, one of my friends managed to do every shift and still be out until she had work.
Mind of matter!

you guys need to chill imo.

yeah, it was a  bit silly. but we've all been there. you probably won't be able to work at another festival unless you call them and explain the situation and apologise. which will probably be fine.

What, I slept in and my mates said the work I'd agreed to do wasn't very nice so I decided not to do it?

I honestly cant think of anything worse than going to glasto and having to work, id rather not go. The whole experience is about chilling and having fun i cant imagine how you can do that when you've got your next shift always in the back of your mind.

Not being able to go to Glastonbury at all would be far worse in my opinion.

Luckily there are loads of folk that do otherwise it wouldn't go on. The I'd rather not go comment is a little daft. Try it and find out. I work before the festi, admittedly easy work, and love it. Great camping, all the festival to hang out in when it's got less people in with a great atmosphere. In fact at times I perfer the Monday and Tuesday before.
Each to there own though. I'm not sure whether I could camp outside of crew now (plus the bar until 7am helps)

I did the first shit then the second one where i slept in my mates came back and were like 'my god the heat, the litter...not good!' I thought right I have two options

Go to my team leader explain that I was ill, make the time up and do an extra 6 hours on top of the 18 hours I had left in order to get mt deposit back/do the work etc.

OR

Not do the work, suffer the consequences (there seems not to be any apart from not being able to work again) and have a fanatastic time, see all of glastonbury, watch the sunrise at stone circle, be a free spirit, not worry about knowing the time or having my phone on.

It took all of 10 seconds to make a decision

And the right one was made.
Yes I should have got a regular ticket, I tried and couldn't get on the website so I found a way.
I have ultimate respect to all the litter pickers (including 5 of my friends) who actually did the job.

I know. I just didn't think sammys suggestion of phoning them up and explaining the situation was a very good one.

+1  I'm an atheist, but there seem to be a lot of sensible quotes attributed to that Jesus fella.

Funny how people soften up on someone who announces they are a girl!
I say burn the witch!  On a pile of discarded Brothers paper cups!

I Litter Picked in 2002, I choose the Green Fields/Stone Circle, because I figured those in the green areas would keep the place clean, by just not dropping litter. But I hadn't been since 1987 so I had no idea what the place would be like.

It was bloody hard work, I was on my knees by the end. But I'd entered into a contract to work in return for a ticket, a decent spot to camp & my meals for the weekend. I fulfilled my end of the bargain. Like any other job.

I personally think that EVERYONE should do at least one festival as a litter picker. That would quickly cut the litter on site....

yea i wouldn't mind working a festival, just worries me i'd miss out on stuff i.e. if i worked early morning shifts I couldn't go to shangri-la etc

I stand by my thoughts/comments as posted previously that people who don't do the work they are supposed to should be balcklisted full stop. Leave the tickets for those that are willing to do all their hours or enable more to go on general sale

People can give all the reasons in the world and quote all this free spirit crap and they allow for people to bunk off thats why they employ more bollocks but at the end of the day they didn't do their end of the deal so have to face all the reprecussions.

People who missed their shifts on the team I worked on had the option of making up the hours in the recycling centre.  I also know of others that switched to different areas to work in- there are options other than f*ck it I can't be arsed

On a related but totally separate point it felt to me that there weren't enough bins around this year, particularly in the food areas.

There's obviously no excuse for people dumping plates and cups etc on the floor but a couple of times I found I had to walk around for a while with the stuff in hand looking for a bin than wasn't overflowing.
