Sorry to bump this old thread but I am thinking of taking a wheelie bin to Glasto.

Has anyone had any problems doing this / getting it through the gates? I'll be borrowing my council supplied one, and it's got a fairly large council logo stamped on the front of it. I'm wondering if any of the stewards are likely to complain at me blatantly bringing council property onto the site.

Cheers ;)

Looking at fitting ours to the sack truck, should fit easy as well and its never been used so no conning the council for another.  :)

Well, our council charges for replacement bins, so I've no intention of conning them (unless it gets destroyed at the festy).

Surely they must at least have a cursory look inside anyone's wheelie bin. The people smuggling potential is just too obvious. I like the idea of putting a case of beer on someone's head  B)

i saw the two welsh guys with one. it looked like a real good idear

;-) the wheelie bin is an unstoppable force ! ;-) I am one of the said welsh guys with the wheelie bin and they really are awesome festival mules, carried all our gear in one easy trip both of the last two years! First year we even had a tent just for the wheelie bin ! This year we put her in the lock ups which was perfect ! 7 festivals down and it shows no sign of surrendering !!! Viva la wheelie bin !!!!
Appologees for typos or spelling as I've just got in from a 8 hour session have fat thumbs and an iPhone which is a rough combo

How weird!
I was sitting in my garden just today and looking at my 'new' bins from the council and wondering if they'd been any good for Glastonbury.
Trouble is I'd never get the bloody thing in the car!
But would certainly fit all my stuff in, especially the recycling one as its larger.

Peace x

That's what I was thinking, I'm 99% sure a wheelie bin, like the ones the council supply wouldn't fit in the car :unless we had the seats in the back pushed down, but the back's always full anyway

we used one at V festival one year and it worked a treat. They had then lined up by the entrance for rubbish but as we were one of the first there the bin hadnt been used yet so we just filled it up and off we went. Wasnt muddy at the time but worked great.

Why not print off the Glastonbury logo and tape it over the top?

I don't recommend one of those old metal bins. That wasn't practical last year  :P

Ah, see I thought of that but putting a Glasto logo on it makes it looked like I might've knicked it from the festival! (at least to a newbie steward it might).

Actually, I have the perfect thing lined up...

That's funny cos I was thinking the same thing  :P I've picked up a bunch of cheap LED fairy lights (for the tent) from eBay and was thinking of decorating it like some kind of plastic christmas tree  B)

My top glastochariot tip would be to put one of those wheelie bin liners in it. Keeps all the stuff inside nice and fresh (if the bin has been previously used).

Not sure if I will bother locking ours up, it might be handy to use as a beer cooler (fill with water) / table.
