Saw the Bootleg Beatles last year. They were superb. The bootleg Beatles have played before now, so I don't see it as impossible. In fact, I'm somewhat surprised they've never played.

I've just realised that IoW have "British" PF, not the more normal "Oz" PF ... so when "I said I'm somewhat surprised they've never played" I was talking about the Oz bunch.

The British Pink Floyd is "From the producer of 'The Australian Pink Floyd Show' comes this new and even bigger Pink Floyd live spectacular."
So maybe a changing cast/musicians etc and a big f**k off light show.
I saw the Oz PF in Dublin before at a sold out 8000 seater (Im convinced half the people thought it was the real PF), and they were great. Started with the entire Animals album. Sounded a lot like them.

The British Pink Floyd Show is a kinda breakaway band from The Australian Pink Floyd Show ... who have in fact played Glasto before BTW
I wasn't there but by all accounts it was one of the *very* wet pre-2K years (1997/8 ?) although I can't quite remember which. TAPFS apparently played the Acoustic Stage, got severely bogged down in the mud and - somewhat amusingly - were assisted by a fellow Antipodean (a certain Mr.Harris no less) in trying to extract vehicles/kit/whatever from said mud !
As for what's currently going on, I don't know all the gory details as such, only what's been said reasonably publicly. In summary: TAPFS who have been doing their thing pretty d@mn brilliantly for 15 years or so have very recently parted company with their previous promoters (CMP Entertainment) so CMP have (kinda) 'knicked' some of the band and formed/encouraged/whatevered The British Pink Floyd Show which they will now promote instead of TAPFS ! Rather curiously to say the least, pretty much the same Brit Floyd band will also be playing as The Australian Classic Rock Show being promoted by CMP as well ... which kinda blows CMP's 'excuse' for the "name change" right outta the water doesn't it
Official announcements from both sides: HERE and HERE along with mucho speculation and other comments various around on the 'net needless to say.
As for the British Pink Floyd Show - Damien Darlington (Guitar, Vocals) was with TAPFS for many years, Ian Catttel (Bass, Vocals) and the trio of Backing Singers were also with TAPFS for several years plus most if not all other band members have played with TAPFS on the US/Canada dates (only) of most recent TAPFS tours. The previous TAPFS tour crew will apparently also be working with the shiny new British Pink Flowd Show. NOT by any means a bad bunch of guys technically/musically but not the original driving force behind TAPFS, they're all pretty much relative newcomers so to speak and all apparently with little or no official say in the running of TAPFS over the years.
The Australian Pink Floyd Show is however still very much in existence. Steve Mac (Guitar, Vocals), Colin Wilson (Bass, Vocals), Jason Sawford (Keyboards) and Paul Bonney (Drums) were and still are The Australian Pink Floyd Show and will also be touring in 2011 but with a new promoter of course. They are the ORIGINAL members of TAPFS who started the whole thing rolling all those years ago with the first 3 of them being Aussies and Mr.Bonney the tokenMancBrit
Additional band members are yet to be announced but TAPFS have already recruited Colin Norfield (Pink Floyd & David Gilmour) as Sound Engineer, Clive Brooks (Nick Mason) as Drum Technician and Kevin Hopgood (Kylie Monogue & Mark Knopfler) as Producer.
TAPFS have also revealed that the 2011 tour and beyond will be featuring Floyd/Waters stylee Quad Sound together with shiny new 3D animations as well apparently rather than the customary 2D Floyd stylee Mr.Screen affair that's been enjoyed for many years ... so collect your comedy glasses on the way in and all that I would suspect
All sounds pretty d@mn good to me mind you.
Seems kinda like it's all one of those rather sad direction/business/money stylee falling out affairs and the end result is two bands: The original members of The Australian Pink Floyd Show moving on, retaining the name and continuing their ever increasing technical and musical excellence ... with the 'new-comers', part timers and current(ish) production crew remaining with CMP and calling themselves The British Pink Floyd Show.
Time will tell and all that but much as is usually the case with Cricket etc, my money is very much on the Aussies coming out on top

Pink Floyd=THE BEST BAND EVER! If they toured again I'd literally do anything for a ticket, ANYTHING. If they played Glastonbury it would be the best thing ever, and at the ripe old age of 20, I could die a happy man (well sort of happy). Sadly I really can't see it happening, under any circumstances.
However if it did I honestly dont kno what I'd do, I'd cry probably. Scream like a girl, have a smileon my face for the rest of the year, seriously begin to question whether I was dreaming or if infact it was reality. I'd probably come out on the side of dreaming. I honestly wouldnt know what to do with myself...I've had a bit to drink and I'm getting tearful just thinking about it :'(

Why doesn't anyone understand that Pink Floyd no longer exist? Even if Waters and Gilmour toured together, which will not happen, it wouldn't be Pink Floyd. Every year this thread seems to pop up.

Wow, MikeB where have you been?
I was going to post that a coach driver had told me about some kind of split, but why bother now eh?

Yeah and by your reasoning, Mccartney and Starr touring would be The Beatles. Either way they have said numerous times they wont reform. Hope indeed however. I can see by your signature that you're clearly a massive Floyd fan, as am I. I would love to see Gilmour, Waters and boring old Mason hit the Pyramid Stage, would probably be one of the best experiences of my life.

Nal, you're right though, London is far too obvious, unfortunately.
Nick Mason appeared the last time I saw Roger in Earl's Court, but I just got lucky that night.
I suspect he will make at least one appearance this year, on the U.S. tour, but I don't think that rules him out of an appearance on the European tour too. Fingers crossed anyway!
(Funnily enough, thinking about it, the day I saw Nick make an appearance was the 12th of May too!! Which is also the only fully-sold-out date at the O2 so far!!! IT MUST BE A SIGN MIKE!!!
)
Ah Ha - NO, definitely not those Norwegian chaps (or even remotely Glasto-related in reality so, sorry for seemingly random inappropriate thread bumpage and all that !) - but rather the merest hint of a hint so to speak that a certain Mr.Gilmour is quite possibly going to be popping up atone of the O2 London gigsthe O2 London gig on Thursday May 12th when both JudyBlue and myself (plus just a few other peeps !) will be in attendance all ready and waiting to welcome him to the stage/wall/wherever at the appropriate time
. According to r-w.com:
Quote
Roger Waters will be filming and recording all 6 shows at The O2 Arena in London in May. For these shows, photographs are permitted but we must insist on NO Flash photography. Flash wipes out the images projected on the Wall, which are the most important part of the show. Any person who uses Flash will have their camera confiscated and could be removed from the Arena.
[puts on cassock and dog collar then does his v.best Phil Lynott stylee voice] It's a sign! I've been given a sign! Mucho filming of specific gigs various and NO Special Guests appearing ? I don't think so !!!!
PS: There are no prizes for understanding the reference to the late great Mr.Lynott and definitely no prizes for anyone old enough to have Ye Olde Original Gatefold Vinyl lovingly stashed away somewhere that's for sure
