There are three quite different types of festival imho, wet ones, absoultey thrashing it down and not stopping ones and dry ones. Each has its advantages and disadvantages. When it is dry there's far more drunks, far more fights, far more litter and far more people collapsing (sun stroke, pissed). When it is thrashing it down and not stopping it is awful, remember 08? Knee high in mud (literally); people falling over and there were lots of broken bones. People enjoyed the music, still sang, still drank, but didn't hang around. There was no litter (or it was very quickly swallowed up by the quick-sand mud), fewer obvious drunks and the most amazing community spirit as everyone pulled together to help each other.
The best festivals - in my opinion have been ones where there has been a bit of warm rain, so we need wellies and raincoats from time to time but the sun keeps making an appearance. You can wear shorts, skimpy t-shirts and waist-tie a jumper for the night time. There's not as much rubbish (cos people don't sit on the ground and leave their food wrappers and trays everywhere), there's not so many drunks (in one area - the arena), people get to know others in the campsites, especially if the non raining time is when everyone is waking up or after the music ends. Bring on the drizzle, I say!
Thursday - rain free to keep the ground dry.
Friday - rain free whilst people are pitching and struggling to get from carpark to sites.
Saturday - morning: rain free in the morning up to about 11.30. Rain til about 3pm, sunshine til sunset, no more rain til 4am
Sunday - same as Saturday...get the picture?
