Hi Everyone...

What's V like if its raining??? Last year was my first time and the weather was gorgeous (even though I was slighly gutted that I didnt get chance to wear my wellies!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we are lucky enough to get the sunshine (like Glastonbury) this year too!  But either way i'm sure its going to be a good one :D

I've done V in the wet, and wellys and a poncho are essential, buy a water proof poncho before you go, as the ones they sell there are rubbish and expensive

its still a great atmosphere there when it does rain and get muddy, as everyones in it together. as long as you keep your tent inside dry and mud free then there are never any problems with it

Thanks guys, I'm sure it will make it interesting if it does rain, although I have to hold my hands up i'm coming in a campervan so I will have a little bit more protection than you people in tents.  I did check the long range weather thing and its predicting August is going to be a dry one, but hey you cant even rely on the next day weather, never mind next month!

So Katie its your first time to V AND your first time camping, straight in there, you'll be fine (as long as you know how to put a tent up! hehe).  Last year was my first time and I really loved it, great atmosphere and I know there have been some people moaning on the forums but really you make it what you want it to be...(but some sunshine will really top it off, so lets keep our fingers crossed!)

V 08 it absolutely chucked it down all weekend (Staffs). It did kind of take the edge of it as you couldn't walk properly but it was still extremely good. Just one word of advice. Do not pitch your tent next to the walk ways. The amount of tents I saw destroyed because the ground around it just disappears was madness. Hopefully it will be like last year though and nice and toasty!

Camp on a hill and you'll be fine (water drains away down the hill!), and stay away from walkways/toilets/large groups of people if possible as these places will obviously be muddiest and I imagine the toilets get pretty horrible in the bad weather. Wellies and a good waterproof are essential-- don't make the mistake I made a buy an easy little pac-a-mac thing- RUBBISH, doesn't keep you dry at all, invest in a proper waterproof coat! And pack plenty of dry socks/t-shirts/warm jumpers so you'll always have something dry to put on.

I did a few weeks ago and it said August was going to be a dry one, whoo hooo, although i've checked a few different sources and they all say different things -

August
August is currently expected to see the return of high pressure more  widely across the UK, resulting in a good deal of dry weather. As you  can see on the air pressure map below though, with pressure potentially  higher to the north of the UK, that may feed winds in from a cooler  direction at times, bringing temperatures slightly below average. There  is a fair amount uncertainty over August at the current time though.

So I think we are being too keen and will just have to wait and see as you can get anything from that above!

The rain isn't too bad, until your inappropriate shoes get full of water.  :(

It can be scorching hot and I'll still be wearing wellies.......when you're a guy (or a wench)and you walk towards the sides of the arena, it can be quite squelchy......with all the urine.....either way, it'll be a swell weekend. Can't beat the Strongbow tent between acts......mental!

There are three quite different types of festival imho, wet ones, absoultey thrashing it down and not stopping ones and dry ones. Each has its advantages and disadvantages. When it is dry there's far more drunks, far more fights, far more litter and far more people collapsing (sun stroke, pissed). When it is thrashing it down and not stopping it is awful, remember 08? Knee high in mud (literally); people falling over and there were lots of broken bones. People enjoyed the music, still sang, still drank, but didn't hang around. There was no litter (or it was very quickly swallowed up by the quick-sand mud), fewer obvious drunks and the most amazing community spirit as everyone pulled together to help each other.

The best festivals - in my opinion have been ones where there has been a bit of warm rain, so we need wellies and raincoats from time to time but the sun keeps making an appearance. You can wear shorts, skimpy t-shirts and waist-tie a jumper for the night time. There's not as much rubbish (cos people don't sit on the ground and leave their food wrappers and trays everywhere), there's not so many drunks (in one area - the arena), people get to know others in the campsites, especially if the non raining time is when everyone is waking up or after the music ends. Bring on the drizzle, I say!

Thursday - rain free to keep the ground dry.
Friday - rain free whilst people are pitching and struggling to get from carpark to sites.
Saturday - morning: rain free in the morning up to about 11.30. Rain til about 3pm, sunshine til sunset, no more rain til 4am
Sunday - same as Saturday...get the picture?

The psychiatrist just called my name, catch you later...
