mr_monkey, on 02 July 2010 - 11:50 AM, said:yep saw the second viewing at about 1. joined the queue for the first one at about 10ish and was about 20 people from the front after it was full so thought sod it and had a couple of beers whilst waiting in the queue and chatted to other people.
Only one sour point was being told at about half 12, by the security 'manager' that they would allow 700 kids and parents in first and then 300 adults!!! I was not happy and told her as much, to then be told that if i didnt like it i could leave as it was a 'kiddies film' even though me and the wife had been waiting there for 3 hours in the sun to see it! forutnaly she was shot down by the other security guards and we were all allowed in at the same time.
awesome file btw
There was a genuinely wonderful moment on Thursday morning, when a whole bunch of people were queued up to see Ponyo (the new Miyazaki film). Some posh middle class twit barges to the front of the (huge) queue, right to the entrance of the tent, with apologetic looking wife and confused kid in tow. Obviously, this causes some consternation, the conversation being something like this:
Twit: "It's a kids film"
Someone else: "There's still a queue"
Twit: "Yes, but I have a kid and it's a kids film" [aside: it is rated U]
Someone else: "Other people in the queue have kids too."
Twit's wife: "We walked all the way down the queue and there weren't any other children here so..." [hmm, did you not wonder why?]
Twit, cutting off his wife mid-sentence: "So we figured we'd come to the front."
Of course, down at the front, the rest of us knew what was going on, so rather than mention anything, just let it play out.
Alas when they let us in I lost track of Twit, bride-of-Twit and spawn-of-Twit. Which is a shame, as I really wanted to see his face when he realised that the whole thing was in Japanese with English subtitles...

that was some mad queue!
I wondered along expecting to walk in and saw a queue along the path expecting it to be the usual big shower queue then followed it into the cinema field where it looped up around the acoustic tent and all the way back to where i'd come from and couldn't believe it.
Asked one of the stewards if she thought everyone would get in and she said she wasn't sure but it holds 1100 people.
Must have been about 4,000+ queuing up to get in as definately more didn't get in than did.
I walked back telling people they wouldn't get in and someone said "what about the second showing".
I definately wouldn't be standing in a queue for 1 1/2 hours while the first showing is on to get in there!

I queued for an hour to get in for the 11am showing of Toy Story 3, and when we got to the front of the line, were told there was only 30 spaces left. It was hot and stuffy in there, and I did have big tent poles right in the middle of my line of sight -BUT it was exactly what I wanted to do! Seeing that film, in 3D and before its release in UK was my idea of fun, and it didn't clash with anything else I wanted to see. In fact it fit right into my chilled Sunday plans. I'm delighted I got in to see it, and I will see it again at the cinema when its released (mainly because my husband is sooo jealous that I got to see if before him!) Seeing a film at Glasto is not for everyone - but it certainly was for me

Strange that people feel the need to ask: 'why would you wanna do that?'
Because people are on a sort of holiday and because it is offered and because they are there to enjoy themselves...
I wouldn't get smashed everyday, or camp right next to a walkway or stand right in front of the Pyramid all day, but I
certainly don't question why people are doing it, as it is pretty obvious.

LostRiot, on 02 July 2010 - 09:54 AM, said:Anyone know why the cinema is now a tent? I really wanted to see 4 lions, but the queue was pretty silly. I preferred it when it was just a field.
I totally agree.
The old location was also quieter and you could pretty much guarantee getting into the indoor one at any time of the day.
Except at 2am when the temperature dipped just as Tarantino's latest was showing.
