Was there a fire on / near the site last night?

I camped right over at the western edge of the site - in the bit just west of Paines Ground on the map. Found it a decent spot.
Anyway, last night around 2am as I was walking back to the tent it looked like there was a big column of smoke rising to the north. It was hard to tell how far away it was (or even to be sure it was smoke, as it was obviously dark), but it looked like something significant could be happening. I couldn't honestly tell you if it was inside the fence or not, but I'm guessing not. I thought maybe it could be a car or two on fire or something.
Anyway, did anyone else notice this or did I imagine it all?

At about 1am there was a big load of smoke rising up from what looked like near mandela bar, and blowing up over our campsite, on field at top of pyramid field. Caused my missus some issues with her Asthma. Maybe someone had a big bonfire. Also there was shitloads of muck all over cars in East car parks today. Maybe just dust though, but walking up the hill out of gate C was lots of muck in the air.

A load of complete arseholes burnt a few dozen chairs (and whatever else they could find) in the centre of the Pyramid field after Stevie.

That was probably it - I'd guess I was looking more west than towards the Pyramid, but it can all be pretty disorienting!A load of complete arseholes burnt a few dozen chairs (and whatever else they could find) in the centre of the Pyramid field after Stevie.

My mate who was driving us home saw more than one car crash on the drive home. I was passed out in the back so missed it, but I think there must've been some drunk/overly tired folk leaving the fest after Stevie...

Wooderson, on 28 June 2010 - 08:56 PM, said:Probably the same ones who weree burning plastic on the Wednesday night in West Holts - black pall of rank smoke amongst the flags was a bit of a downer to be honest. I don't mind burning paper cups but why plastic bottles?A load of complete arseholes burnt a few dozen chairs (and whatever else they could find) in the centre of the Pyramid field after Stevie.
The number of Chinese Lanterns that came down around the circus fields still glowing I'm amazed with it being so dry that nothing burnt down.

After Stevie, we sat and chilled for 20 mins to let the crush die down. There were lots of small fires going on but there was also one very very big fire going on near the mandela tent side and I presume this was what you are referring to

walked across the pyramid field yesterday morning for some breakfast, and saw at least a dozen different fires all still smoldering. Each fire had a pile of chair remains (the metal frames) on top. My girlfriend said the smoke was unbearable and made them move on sooner than they would have.
