Obviously last year we had Them Crooked Vultures doing a sneaky surprise set, and the year before there was The Pigeon Detectives. So I was just wondering if anyone cared to venture a guess as to who's gonna pop up on Thursday night this year?

My guess is it's gonna be a more indie-type band, but someone quite reputable. Maybe MGMT?

Also, if it was up to you to pick whoever, who would YOU book to play a surprise set on Thursday? For me, Pet Shop Boys ;)

Think you're getting a bit confused here, we've only ever had one Thursday night secret set (unless forward russia wasn't announced the year before, but I think they were) and that was pigeon detectives in 2008. If we get a secret band on the Thursday that means that they don't play at Reading. Also any secret bands on the Thursday are likely to be linked with the dance to the radio record label, as it's their stage that night (pigeon detectives have released a record or two through them).

In 2007 Kaisers only played at Leeds on the Carling tent (can't remember which day) and Foo Fighters (possibly acoustic) were supposed to play at reading in the slot but they dropped out.

Them Crooked vultures played on the Friday at Leeds and the Saturday at Reading last year, I highly doubt we'd get anyone of their calibre on a Thursday. Ever.

This year 'The Rats' on the lockup tent is almost certainly Gallows. I'm not sure whether that will fill the quota for 'secret' bands though.

No everyone got their hope up when the saw The FF'ERS were playing and thought it was a secret acoustic slot by The Foo Fighter's, but if you watch this youtube video you can see that was not the case:

However Enter Shikari did play a acoustic set on the introducing stage (This is not folk law, I saw it happen)

sorry, you're wrong this definitely is not the same year I'm talking about, that is 2008 at the bbc introducing stage.

I'm talking about 2007, on the carling tent (now called the Festival republic). Kaiser chiefs played under 'hooks for hands' at leeds, Foo fighters were supposed to play the same slot at reading (could have been acoustic) but had to pull out due to illness or something. I'm not sure whether there was a band name on the Reading poseter though, and if it was whether it was hooks for hands. (this is all as far as I understand by the way, i don't think it was ever full confirmed/rebuked).

*edit* after looking for some kind of half confirmation, wikipedia (ha) says foos were playing before ash but has no sources, so I could be wrong this is just what I had heard.

I got confused also, but remember now, and I think It was a Kaiser Chiefs only thing as they wanted to play to the northerners, hence nothing for us, I dont thing the Foo Fighters were ever meant to play. It's one of those standard rumours though...

Oh has anyone seen the Chelsea player yet?

This is all true. With regards to the Foos in 2007 they had to pull out because of Dave's voice, they were playing before Ash in a huge gap in the lineup (just like Pigeon Detectives and Them Crooked Vultures did). I vaguely remember there being an interview with Dave in which he said this, has anyone got a lanyard from back then to confirm it?

Someone played a guerilla gig (that everyone knew about) on the dodgems on the Thursday night at Leeds a few years back. It was some NME-darlings of the month, and they were truly shite. I can't even remember for sure who it was, The Others mebbe?

Last year it was Blood Red Shoes but it was announced. The Thursday acts are always from the Dance To The Radio record label.

Correct. The Others had one half-decent song called William, but it sounded almost exactly like Mcfly. Da Da Da Da Daa DAAAA! Anyway, that was 2003 or 4.

I think that had always been the case until Blood Red Shoes. I don't remember them ever being on DTTR and it's usually Leeds bands on there, BRS are from Brighton.

It was the others, they continued to play the gig in the camp site until I believe they were taken off the site.

I was on the barrier for pigeon detectives a couple of years ago when they played on the thursday, wasnt fussed about seeing them but nothing else was on. It was hell, 2 people stood next to me passed out and I ended up with the biggest bruise on my chest.

I dont think we will get anything major this year, maybe an up and coming indie band that NME like.

Thom Yorke and Johnny Greenwood- glastonbury style. Would be epic but obviously not a possibility after last year
