The plans for the football

From a trusted source (I believe 100% - naturally you don't have to but I wouldn't post unless I thought it was legit)
Details are as outlined in the topic header - there's going to be a separate 'football field' (near The Park I believe) that will be used for the screening of the 2nd round England match (if England qualify). The capacity mentioned was 10,000.
Naturally this concerns me slightly. England vs Ghana on the Saturday night probably wouldn't draw too big of a crowd but England vs Germany on the Sunday afternoon would be a real issue IMO - I'd guess more than 1 in 17 people would be interested in that one.
Still hard knowing how it's going to all end up with Germany losing to Serbia; nothing will be confirmed fixture wise until Group D finishes at 9.15pm on Wednesday...

England v Germany either Sat night or Sun afternoon will draw a huge crowd.
Do you know if this field is outside the main fence or something thats already used for something else?

Very interesting news.... I do love watching a game of footi... I do support England whole-heartedly... It IS the World Cup, which is pretty mega... But I am guessing that Glasto being Glasto, I wont give two shits about who England are playing when or where once I'm into the Glasto spirit.. (sorry Fabio)

Not sure. It sounds like the capacity is going to be fairly strictly monitored so my guess is they'll only be one entrance, which maybe suggests outside of the fence. That's a bit of a guess though.

I won't go and let the real football fans get in

If it is just 10,000 then that would just be another example of awful planning on the part of GFL.

this has been posted elsewhere that they'll be a field for 50000

I really don't know what people expected GFL to do. Glastonbury is not a sports festival, it's a performing arts festival. The only places that would have been comfortably big enough would have been the stages and to replace bands/acts with something such as that would have been completely wrong. GFL have had to deal with it the best they could.

Then don't put it on at all. If they're going to show it then they need to show it somewhere that doesn't present a massive health and safety hazard.
I know some people aren't fussed and would rather watch the bands but there are 3 (and a half) solid days of music so unless the game clashes with a band you really like then I can't see your England fan not wanting to take 2 hours out to watch the game.
50,000 would be far more realistic but I don't trust GFL to anticipate something like this after the Rolf Harris debacle last year.

Well hopefully England will be beaten tonight, effectively making these plans not required

Someone has already posted on here an email from the Festival Office saying there will be an area near the Dairy which will hold 40000. So if that is correct there is nothing to worry about

I us have missed that. But 10,000 was the number inmy information. 50,000 would be much less of a worry but that'd need a pretty big (i.e. Pyramid stage sized) field

Looks like a lot of different numbers are being banded about. All I can say is the information I was given said 10,000. I'm not saying that's right, just what was said.
40,000 would certainly be more sensible.

Yeah just reading the Daily Star now (only cause it has an article about Glastonbury) and i quote "10,000 football fans will watch England play on a new giant screen, if they reach the knockout stages" so sounds pretty true!

I go to Glastonbury for live music, cider and relaxation in a field. Not to watch 11 overpaid pre-madonna fairies kick an inflated piece of leather around another field.
You can count me in the non-attendees.

I think the official capacity for the Pyramid is c. 100,000. Think more about the size of the Other Stage, that's about c. 50,000. I'm sure I read that on the license application a while back.
I won't be watching it, on either day, for the record.

I'm a football fan. Love it but glasto is not the place for it and less than a week away the fact that it is just hearsay at the mo is typical of how shambolic glastonbury sometimes is. Just make it clear what and where is going on

Yes. They put a comedy act early in the afternoon on one of the largest capacity locations at the festival. What numpties they were!
