We arrived at midnight last year on the Wednesday night/Thursday morning, walked into the gate near the family camping, walked about 10 minutes and camped in the first bit of space. It was a great spot, near the toilets, quiet enough to get some sleep, and a good distance from everything so you had a nice walk each day and saw plenty of the site.

QUOTE (fdc @ Jun 10 2010, 01:27 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Yeah for all my plans, having a large group with me and the football KO at 1500, I think we may end up camped ten metres inside Gate A to be honest.

Were planning on camping here this year for the first time.
It was really good, we didn't spend much time there to be honest, but it was bang in the middle of the site so it was quite an equal walk to most stages (apart from Jazz World which was right next to our tent).

QUOTE (Glastoboy @ Jun 10 2010, 02:07 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>You are not as daft as most first-timers then.
It still amazes me every year that people do camp so close to the toilets and underneath the electricity pylons. It takes all sorts I guess.
We camped right next to the toilets last year. Couldn't really smell it too bad except the odd whiff, and it was very convenient both for the toilets themselves and just getting back out onto the path. I know it's often rule 1 for most people to not camp near a path but for me it's a sensible thing to do, no tripping over guy ropes or losing your tent.

I was thinking about Holts too, but I read some quite non-specific bad things about it. Can someone who's a bit of a veteran comment on Holts compared to other camping places please?

We only went there last year by chance (first timers). We arrived at midnight on a National Express from Sheffield (should have arrived at 2.30pm!!) and I think we were originally aiming to camp by the Pyramid. Got lost wandering around with all our stuff, just decided to settle where we were and where we could find (JUST) enough space for our tents (and some people told us after we'd set up that we cuoldn't camp there as they were saving space, don't think so, not at that time of night!) and it turned out to be Holts. Easy to find, relaxed atmosphere, centre of the site. Perfect

How does Holts cope with the rain Ryan?

This is from the Glasto Earth website, which is pretty usefulQUOTEHolts is dead central and therefore convenient for most of the main entertainment areas, especially West Holts and the Other Stage. However it can be rather noisy with the Glade nearby and sound systems playing 24 hours a day in some of the market stalls that line the bottom edge of the field. A pair of earplugs may be advisable if you intend to stay here and hope to get a decent night's sleep, although it certainly isn't quite so full on nowadays as it was the last time I camped there in 2000.

There's quite a few areas that I like the look of, but they are all miles away from the coach entrance. I think the biggest deciding factor is going to be where we are stood when people start getting fed of hurling their stuff about.

I know what you mean. I think I may end up with Dairy, can't see myself managing to get to Holts.

Fine guide map of camping
I saw a map a while ago which was apparently an updated campsite for this year, but the map above is the one in the fine guide? So basically, am I going to be able to camp in the field to the right of dragon field this year?!

This looks almost identical to the one i've been looking at, but the bit next to Dragons is shaded out, and also the one i've been looking at has Unfairground included...
May update - taken from Information section

Right up the top of the Big Ground for me, I think. Boring and predicatable it may be, but parking in East I really can't be arsed to lug my stuff any further!

We usually camp in Pennards, but I really like the Park area last year so perhaps we may end up there? If not, it will probably be Pennards again, depending on space and what time we get there!

I've really no idea - anyone else know if this is likely to be updated?

No I'm afraid.....double checked with the festival office & they said that it is 100% crew camping this year with no likelihood of that changing
The map in the fine guide is an old version which has been updated since. The one in the information section on the official site is the most up to date available at the moment though from what I hear the map gets updated right up until the festival!
