Hi, as a newbie i wondered whether anyone could advise on the best areas to camp in. I'd rather head off with a plan than pitching up at the first spot we come to - just incase there's somewhere better to go (I hate missing out!).  I'm going on the Wednesday so hopefully we'll have some choice in the matter.

Any advice?

erm, if you want druggies waking you up at 4 in the morning and waking up to the sound of hey lad you shagged her yet go dance field. The other place i been was paines field i think it was, pretty chilled atmosphere there. Basically the further away from the stages tends to be the more chilled family friendly areas i found.

It depends. What are you looking for in a camping spot?

Bottom of Pennards, as close to the railway line as you can get.  Drainage is fine, honest.

I find that the ground is always the best place to pitch it.  You get better views up a tree but getting up in the morning can be problematic.

I want to camp under a massive tree this time for a bit of shade in the morning. Where's best for this?

In seriousness though, it's all about what you are looking for.

If you want a quiet night (relatively speaking) camp among the new areas on the outskirts, if you want a lively night and good access to most areas, pennards is ideal (little way up the hill in case of flooding), if you want to spend a week in a nightmare scenario refugee camp there is always holts.

I like camping in the north side for atmosphere and friendly neighbours, but I camp south for better access/easy return to tent from most stages.

But here's a more serious answer - there is one in Woodsies in the north west corner of the site (if that's still normal camping!) that we were near in 2000 - absolutely perfect.  Problem is - it's a bit out of the way of most things.

Find a spare area of grass in a camping field, pitch tent.

IT DOESN'T MATTER WHERE YOU CAMP!!!!!!!! rolleyes.gif

There's a tree, possibly in Park Home, where a couple of times I've seen a campsite flag flying arrangement of absolute genius.

Instead of a pole sticking into the ground, they have a length of rope hanging from the bough of the tree, with a rock tied at the bottom to keep it taut. This forms a straight vertical "pole" to hang the flag off. Think it was a Scotland flag. Brilliant.

I think it also depends which stages you will be at some of the time. As we spend a lot of time at the Other and John Peel we camp in the dance field but the other stage side as feel its perfect for us.
There is no best place full stop. Each fields suits someone different

I camped there once. It felt like an Eritrean refugee camp. Hillsides! Hillsides have views.

Im looking for a place that isnt too wild - want  a good vibe and atmosphere (guess that will be everywhere) thats not too full on 24hr. As for proximity to things Im full prepared to walk further if somewhere in particular is amazing!
So northside is more suitable?

The north is more "mainstream" I guess, because it's where people go if they want a short walk to the Pyramid.
