Thats exactly the point, all he is to you or me, is black text on a white background,  you can even let on its not even a real person smile.gif

And if you feel strongly enough about being offended, PM him and sort it out.

You come on here and moan... and then say the forum has no Glasto spirit.

Thing is the same thing keep being asked/ discussed day in day out, its hard for people who have been here for a while to stay sane imo.

So that's an excuse for people to rip, for example, new members to shreds for asking a question that's already been asked? Either be polite and direct them to a thread that answers their question, or simply don't respond!

I think the opening poster could do with some man tablets really. I've seen far far worse forums than this for abuse and so forth. On the day tickets were on sale there were people on here actively offering to take people's details and try to purchase tickets for them.

Is a nice place.

It was in one of the ticket threads asking if there were more being released, there's so many of them I don't know where to find it! I understand what you're saying about toleration completely, but I don't have to like him.

Absolutely - as is your wont.  There are posters I can't stand, so I just ignore them.

Just because some posters like someone doesn't mean you have to.  Muse, for example - in my case.  wink.gif

There's a person behind the black text though! There's no point PMing him, he doesn't seem to care what he says to people, that much is clear.

I'm simply saying that I think, as someone that has been on here a long time, that this forum is more unpleasant then it used to be, and I'm using something that happened to me as one example.

"Viciously attacked"; "Ripped to shreds"?

Either you're extraordinarily sensitive, or I've missed something spectacular.

Go on, gizza link (or has a firestorm been deleted by mods?)

I can't as it was ages ago and there's so many ticket threads I don't know where to begin, and I'm at work! And the "ripped to shreds" example I gave above wasn't what happened to me anyway. Besides, sounds like you're wanting to read it for entertainment value!

Not really. I want to tell you you're overreacting, because I'm pretty sure you are --  but I can't say for sure without seeing for myself what you're talking about.

If I was overreacting, so were a fair few others. Look at the threads he posts in and tell me everyone he has a go at because they don't agree with everything he says is overreacting too!

I must be missing something too, i've always found Russy's comments tongue in cheek and deliberately shocking(in a humerous way) - and as he does this to most folk i've never thought it a personal attack.

The thing with this type of humour is it can be a tad risque, ie, the Kylie gag, but I doubt he expected folk to be so sensitive - he does make an often dull board fun.

No offence though blackcockerel smile.gif

I think that it's the lack on context that can be misleading at times?  I have honestly meant some of the nicest people I know through this forum.  People with whom I hope I keep in touch with for a very very long time biggrin.gif

Admittedly I have also been exposed to people who I don't have a particularly high opinion of from how they have acted on here, but that's life!  Not everyone gets on, people can be bullies, disrespectful and rude - we're human!  I do think that some people are braver with what they say on forums (in general not just here) but like in "real" life you just have to ignore the people that annoy you and get on with it!

I will admit that I have, in the past, been involved in a few "heated" discussions/threads whatever, but I do now live by "think before you type" style of posting.  Lack of context is a really bad thing and what you think may be funny or banter, can be totally miunderstood by the person reading it.  In fact in many different ways by everyone who reads it!!

There are people who don't live by "think before you type" or do and still offend people, but as I say - we're human, some people are just like that!

In the end I think the best reflection of the nature and personalities on this forum is the fact that in the last few months, we have all managed to raise nearly £6000 for wateraid via the Glasto World Cup.  That is no easy task - especially at the moment when redumndancy and unemployment are rife sad.gif

People on these forums, both oldies and newbies, have embraced this event and donated a staggering amount of money, time and support to the cause and I for one (and I know that Hogga and Chazeboy feel the same) am overwhelmed by the support show by the forums and the people on them.  wub.gif

This is the second year that we have done this and asked for you guys to support us and I wouldn't have been surprised if we received our fair share of "more f**king money, did we not give you enough last year" - but again the response and support for this fantastic cause has been astounding.

This has restored my faith in these boards and I know that there will always be the odd troll, verbal bashing of Mick Hucknall (tongue.gif) and moaning Radiohead fan that the are not headling again this year (myself included)!

But on the whole, I don't think we're a bad bunch really and I know that the people that receive clean, fresh and diesease free drinking water as a result of your support would agree too!

With it being the 40th Anniversary this year I was expecting something special on the efestivals forum.

However, once again we have people expressing opinions and asking questions, sometimes well, sometimes badly.

Once again we have people taking offence, sometimes justifiably, sometimes ridiculously.

Come on Glastonbury - sort it out!

I havent even looked in the flag thread, i know what itll contain sad.gif

Its a shame people feel the need to moan but there we are, youve just gotta remember this isnt a typical sample of the glasto crowd. I bet it scares some people off if theyve just bought a ticket for the first time and come on here and assume that glasto will just be a load of people moaning about flags, the weather, people pissing in hedges, having gazebos etc. etc.

But that is just par for the course for russy. He's taking the piss - Im sure he doesn't really expect everyone to agree with him. And he used the phrase 'some people don't deserve ears' which is in the top 5 of phrases ever used on these boards. But at the end of the day you've never met him and probably never will - why on earth are you bothered about what someone you don't know, have never met and probably will never meet thuinks about you or anything? If I said you were a top sound bloke, it would equally count for f*ck all

Ive only seen the initial exchange and think russy made a fair enough suggestion and then black cockerel made a very abusive comment - I didnt read after that cos when you tell people to go f**k themselves, you deserve all you get

Actually, as someone who has never been before i'm all the more excited BECAUSE of this forum.  The moaning is because of their passion for the place... seriously, can you tell me anything RIGHT about pissing in hedges?!  As for flags... people don't spend nearly 200 quid on a ticket NOT to be able to see the artists on stage.

The passion and enthusiasm people have in this place is infectious.  I've spoken to some lovely people in here who are full of humour and have been nothing other than helpful.  Yep, we all have different ways of expressing ourselves and the internet isn't a particularly good medium for that - its difficult to tell if someone is truly being offensive or taking the piss - but to say this forum makes 'Glasto virgins' think the festival is full of negative stuff is just rather silly really!

Yep, I'm afraid Russy comes out of that one smelling of roses.
