I accept that people that aren't how shall we say 'aware' of people like russy would find his sort of posts downright nasty, but I think sometimes (not necessarily in russy's case  laugh.gif ) it can be tricky to portray your actual thoughts in words.

Example - I often slag off Kasabian (and obviously bad weather forecasts), and can get rather 'animated' as a result, but that's never me attacking anyone who disagrees.  If that's how it comes across, it's certainly not intentional.

I can't speak for russy - I too have been on the end of one of his vitriolic outbursts (football at Glasto related!), but I know his style of posting so just put up with him to the extent that I can actually find him very amusing.

I think the discussions board (that I never visited before Glasto 2008) has probably toughened me up a bit.  If you think it's rather raucous on here, it's nothing compared to some of the more 'controversial' topics over there.

Sadly I think that there is a certain amount of 'cyber bullying' on this site - what is friendly banter to one certainly isn't to another.

a lot comes down to interpretation really, Ive not been on this site for a long time, but I dont think anyone goes out with the intention of bullying someone - although I guess I can only speak for myself.

I think some of the 'banter' can be off-putting to new posters, especially where they may not realise that it's in good spirits.

Yeah, that is something I'm certainly guilty of.  I do try to be good though.

This time last year in build up to Glastonbury this forum gave me the taste of things to come with the types of people I was about to meet and the spirit of the occasion.

Fast forward 12 months and the feeling of massive change is evident, the amount of posts read recently that ridicule a forum member for their taste in music, the language and attitude that is used is incredible.

You didn't follow last year's Springsteen threads then?

I was viciously attacked by the supposedly witty Russycarps for merely asking a question on here. It wasn't good-natured banter either, there was no need for it.

Yeah as was I and a few others.

But its all water of a ducks back,  always the same with Forums,  either the person posting insults is an internet warrior and if they met you in real life they would be as nice as pie,  or it was taken wrong as there is no body language.  Same with mobile text message's, dangerous things in the wrong situation.

I'm not easily offended, I should point out, but Russycarps wasn't trying to be funny when he had a go at me. The fact that he then lied about what he said suggests he knew he'd gone too far as well.

Absolutely.  Excellent point.

Honestly - some of my exes just had NO sense of humour.

I wouldn't worry to much. It will probably become part of a growing trend. People tend to vent when times get tough. But this forum is, in gen, light hearted as is the festival. Plus, as you may know, I always follow the sage words of my dear old Mum . "Grandadcollective" she used to say"if you don't like what they are saying to you tell the prŁ$ks to F%$k off!" but then she did have Tourrettes God bless her.

Sometimes it is not how people say things, but how others take things.

I find Russy very funny, he's called me a few choice things, I just laugh it off.

There are occasions where people don't understand that opinion does not equal fact and that taste is equally subjective, however this IS the internet...I find this forum no different to others.

I do,  I used another Glastobury Forum before registering on here, I found this one more informative with posters more willing to help others,  more friendly banter than the other one and less "clicky" (SP?)

Its not perfect but as forums go, for me, its one of the best.

Wouldn't the boards be rather dull if we all just exchanged nice little comments?

I look forward to Russy's comments tbh, and going to the meet-ups and puting faces to names should be fun wink.gif

You see, I find this defense of the things he says bizarre. You're suggesting it's my fault he ripped me to shreds because I don't "get it".

Please link to this so we can make our own judgement.

To be honest, I haven't seen anything particularly harsh on here.

I think most people would perfectly understand why you were offended TBH.  Certainly not your fault.

Defending what he says probably isn't the right term - more like 'tolerate' them.  There's no way in hell I'd say the sort of thing he does (unless it's to Tugger, ampersand etc wink.gif) but I does make me chuckle.  Mostly.

To be honest, I look forward to meeting russy this year and sharing a pint with him.  I think he's a sound bloke, albeit 'over-zealous' on occasions...

It was in one of the ticket threads asking if there were more being released, there's so many of them I don't know where to find it! I understand what you're saying about toleration completely, but I don't have to like him.

You come on here and moan... and then say the forum has no Glasto spirit.

Thing is the same thing keep being asked/ discussed day in day out, its hard for people who have been here for a while to stay sane imo.
