This time last year in build up to Glastonbury this forum gave me the taste of things to come with the types of people I was about to meet and the spirit of the occasion.

Fast forward 12 months and the feeling of massive change is evident, the amount of posts read recently that ridicule a forum member for their taste in music, the language and attitude that is used is incredible.

And the most recent, thread about Flags sums it all up, I fully expect to receive abuse from 'keyboard warriors' who revel in abusing other people behind the safety of their keyboard and I have very thick skin so it will be water off a ducks back.

Its sad that people who posted on here in the past have decided this isn't the forum for them any longer and I hope the moderator of this forum sees fit to address the situation in eradicating personal abuse and foul language, after all it isn't what most people would expect to hear in real life so why on here?

To be honest I think its one of the best forums on the boards (these and others). I think the vast majority who post are decent enough and the ones Ive met in real life definitely so. And being involved in the Efestivals Glastonbury World Cup, the money we have raised through individual donations from people who use the boards is truly inspirational - to raise what I think will be well over £6000 by the time we've finished for a game of football is an immense achievement. Why not come along to one of the meets and find out what people are really like for yourself?

I dont think that much has changed on here, there is a lot of ridicule, but I dont think its aggressive, there is still a lot of people on here that have been here for many years and enjoy the banter.

I think the exception is the Flag situation, but I think it is a standalone topic, this is the one thing that really does get peoples goat up on here.

Phil I came along to two meets last year and completely agree with what you are saying, I met some great people who I will be meeting this year again, but they are absent from this board for the majority of the time for the same reson this thread was started.

I was (as per original post) referring to recent posts made IE in the past few months by newbies and some regulars who don't seem to be too bothered how they speak to other people on here.

Perhaps im out of touch with old fashioned values but I was taught that a little respect goes a long way.

I dont like people waving flags when im trying to watch a band but im not going to call them a twat or threaten to rip their throat out, and this is a recent example of the abuse that can be read on the forum.

I think things have definitely got more unpleasant on here over the last year.

I would disagree with this to be honest.

I can't comment on 2009, but IMHO the worst I think it got was evident 2 years ago when Jay-Z was rumoured and then confirmed.  I couldn't believe some of the stuff that was being posted, but it certainly wouldn't keep me away because in amongst some of that stuff is some extremely useful and at times rather entertaining stuff.

I just interpret it is harmless banter.

I use a lot of forums for various things, and this is probably the friendliest Ive ever used.

If you think this one is bad, you're in a for a shock at some of the others!

Perhaps Im being a little naive then. I dont read threads that have anything to do with bands because they always turn into a backwards and forwards 'they're shit' 'no they aren't' 'yes they are' etc etc etc. In saying that, there are some people who comment on bands that I find funny - ampersand, LW and russycarps for instance. But there is some overly aggressive posting I accept

I wholeheartedly agree with Alf Tupper. There are several people on these boards who hide behind their computer screens, dishing out abuse and saying things they'd never say to people in real life (cowards). Unfortunately it's the same across the whole internet at the moment.

This forum is the best place to exchange Glasto info. Unfortunately it is the worst place to come if you want to find that classic Glastonbury spirit.

I was viciously attacked by the supposedly witty Russycarps for merely asking a question on here. It wasn't good-natured banter either, there was no need for it.

Haha, yeah, the OP should go and read 4chan for an hour. This place will seem like a hippy commune by comparison

I think you need to just be the bigger man/women in these situations that piss you off.

As mentioned previously, anyone can sit on a pc and say things, its totally different when face to face

I accept that people that aren't how shall we say 'aware' of people like russy would find his sort of posts downright nasty, but I think sometimes (not necessarily in russy's case  laugh.gif ) it can be tricky to portray your actual thoughts in words.

Example - I often slag off Kasabian (and obviously bad weather forecasts), and can get rather 'animated' as a result, but that's never me attacking anyone who disagrees.  If that's how it comes across, it's certainly not intentional.

I can't speak for russy - I too have been on the end of one of his vitriolic outbursts (football at Glasto related!), but I know his style of posting so just put up with him to the extent that I can actually find him very amusing.

I think the discussions board (that I never visited before Glasto 2008) has probably toughened me up a bit.  If you think it's rather raucous on here, it's nothing compared to some of the more 'controversial' topics over there.

Sadly I think that there is a certain amount of 'cyber bullying' on this site - what is friendly banter to one certainly isn't to another.  Its too easy to hind behind the screen, and although I'm pretty hard to offend (aside from the obvious litter debates  rolleyes.gif ), there is some pretty childish sexist 'bullying' on these forums.

I enjoy these forums, but I do think at times things go a little too far, and whereas I am all for total free speech, for those that take the piss and are down right nasty, they should be moderated. xx

I think some of the 'banter' can be off-putting to new posters, especially where they may not realise that it's in good spirits.

There's a report to moderator button if anyone wishes to attract the attention of a mod.

I reckon most things are intended in humour but often interpreted differently - that said there`has occasionally been some aggressive and vile comments, but that's always been there for me.  Nostalgia is a`funny thing...makes you sound old too! tongue.gif
