OK, so I know we're not gonna need them this year as it's gonna be a scorcher  wink.gif  - but I have a welly comfort issue. My wellies seem to fit very well but I always find that after a day of wearing them they kind of bruise my ankles a bit, meaning that the next day it can be rather uncomfortable. Obviously not ideal when you're walking a lot! Perhaps I just have particularly prominent ankle bones  ohmy.gif

So - should I buy some different ones? And if so, any recommendations for comfortable ones?

Or failing that, any ideas of how i could protect my ankle bones a little? Can you buy socks which have padded ankles?

Proper trekking socks, with a second liner pair, will help, have a look at bridgedale.com

Even better, try walking boots.

I bought some Hunter Argyll's. Not yer Kate Moss ones, proper Farmers ones. Got some faux-fleece in soles for them and they are comfy as can be. As for ankle wear, that's a tricky one!

I wondered what that was going to be then! Now who'd have thought that ankle protectors were a must for a poledancer  laugh.gif

no wellies are really comfortable on the 1st try...

you have to wear them in, after a while they adapt to the shape and smell of your feet... and they will be comfortable and not so fragrant forever more

I've had these for a few years now and they're great in every other way (fitted enough so they don't come of in gloopy mud, but equally not too tight, and seem to fit well enough), I just struggle wearing them for more than one day solid! I think it my be more due to my ankles than the wellies!

Maybe some sort of ankle support/protectors plus some decent walking socks may be the answer

doesn't really help with the ankles but i always go for 2 pairs of socks (1 thick, 1 thin) and some memory foam insoles (TJ Hughes has them for about £2), which make wellies bearbale for me. NOT THAT WE'LL NEED THEM of course biggrin.gif

Much comfier yes. But they're just not as efficient in the ankle deep or deeper mud that can appear after a downpour.

Walking boots and gaitors... you won't win a fashion parade, but socks and calves stay mud free.

!!Strange Rambley Question Alert!!

After 2007 me and my wife purchased Hunter's. And they are great. Dealt with the little mud there was in 2008 with aplomb.

My father is coming to Glastonbury the first time this year and I recommended he get a pair forgetting completely that he grew up on a farm.  He laughed at me and informed me Hunter's are worn only by 'Gentlemen farmers' and that real farmers wear... then he completely forgot the brand. Anyone know what he might have been thinking of?

yes they are, but the only other ones i could find that fit me were a pair of gardening boots from B&Q... i'm one of those unfortunate people in the small foot / large calf category so Asda cheapies aren't an option for me sad.gif
