'Very true. Particularly the comment about Los Campesinos. They are completely different from their peers and should be praised for it. Rather, they receive little airplay and not much publicity. Shame'
Los Camp's latest album is f**king insane

Can people stop grouping all music as indie. The xx for example are not indie, its just slow depressing garbage.
I think the worst thing to happen for a lot of these indie bands was Oasis quitting. As they all then came out saying how they were going to fill the hole left by them only to fall flat with average second albums (Enemy, Courteeners).
Also music as most things in life goes in trends. In a couple of years people will be saying there is too much indie and not enough electro

This is what I call real indie as in independent music, not floppy haired boys with skinny jeans and guitars...

radio 1 are to blame for all this shite that gets churned out!
jo wiley thinks she is doing us a favour by letting us know about these so called next big things. the only way she could do me a favour would be to f**k off and die!!

you're bang on the nubbin there i reckon. without Radio 1 airplay it's incredibly difficult for any artist in any genre to break into the mainstream and maybe earn some cash.
Radio 1 and the record companies decide what is to be played (and there's all sorts of theories as to how/why what gets picked), and thus what occupies our ears when we turn on the radio, as many of us like to do.
these artists are the toured relentlessly in gigs and festivals to eke out as much cash as possible before being dropped and the next 'next big thing' comes out and we start all over again.
there'll always be a new batch of 13 year old kids lapping it up cos it's different from what went before. different, not necessarily better.
and a big +1 about Whiley, the hook nosed old goat.

That's another act that in 5 years people will be thinking "why did I like that....?".
I like Florence and the Machine because she has amazing legs and I have a crush on her like a teenage girl over JLS. Quite a shameful admission for a man less than three weeks off thirty.

Los Campesinos original? No way, there are TONNES of twee indie pop bands that sound just like them, LC are just the first to break it into the (slightly more) mainstream. It's a very limited genre, so all bands that try it end up sounding pretty much identical. The only thing that sets LC apart is their use of self referential witty lyrics (i.e. the same thing that set Arctic Monkeys apart a few years ago).

Personally i think most magazines are pretty shite and if you only stick to one of them you end only ever listening to one type of music. I sometimes pick up DJ Mag and Wire even less often. I rarely I buy the NME but am always left wondering why I've wasted my money when I do, just like the rare times I buy some crap from McDonalds.

For new music, music magazines aren't that great, blogs are much better for that kind of thing. Gorilla Vs Bear and Music For Kids Who Can't Read Good are my favs. Discovered loads of great new bands through them.

Terrorizer and Q are my magazines of choice. Neither of them are amazing but they do the job when I want something music related to read.
