I've tried searching this topic but can't find anything. I know there are a number of runners on the site who train regularly do races etc. Does anyone actually go for a run during the festival or do you just assume all the walking is plenty and forget about it for the week? if you do where do you go? As running gets rather addictive i wouldn't be surprised if there are some planning to run while there. smile.gif

Yeah, quite fancied running on at least Thurs & Fri AM. But would need to identify suitable showers.

Would like to know if people have routes rather than just clatter about on the metal walkways (I don't know how much pathway they cover).

If anyone has a 30 - 40 min run route they'd like to share that be great, Cheers  smile.gif

There may also be the option of going off site and running round local lanes but you would have to carry your ticket

Last year a member of Camp Triangle considered a run inside the length of the perimeter fence but after a day or two at the fest and some beers, ideas like that soon ended!

That must be quite far - is it possible, or do tents go right up to the fence?

I run and I have never even considered the idea of running at Glastonbury for the following reasons:

All the walking is enough excercise

All the alcohol makes running not a great idea - CV excercise is actaully a bad idea the day after drinking and puts alot of strain on the heart - but teetotallers or light drinkers may be OK.

The random availabilty of showers

Having to carry running kit as an extra (my running trainers are not the ones I'd generally wear around the place)

But overall - tying in with the fact that it is enough excercise - i prefer to expend my energy whilst I am there on doing Gl;astonbury stuff - and getting out for a run beforte the day starts is going to reduce my chances of still being up at the stone circle or Shangri-La or whatever in the wee small hours.

I do usually train on holiday and consider running in a new place to actuallly be one of the pleasures of a break away somewhere, but Glastonbury is different - you could do Glastonbury 24/7 for the 5 days you're there and I think you should do as much of that as you have the energy for. I guarantee you will not return less fit for a 5 day break from running - I always lose weight there no matter how much I eat and drink beacuse I walk and dance and jump up and down so much! I have to admit I do lose fitness aft6er I get back as i collapse in a drained depressed and 5 day hungover heap!

Good Luck!

I run regularly but wouldn't even dream of attempting it at Glasto....  No space, mud, being hungover, lack of shower are just a few reasons why not to bother...  Relax it won't kill you not to run for a few days!

Ditch your running shoes and head along to a place that has loud music...you will find a few at Glastonbury and then dance for four or five days. The idea of running will lose its appeal

Probably your best bet is running the old railway track, long and straight.  Would have to be early in the day to avoid the crowds wherever you chose.  I would think running on the walkways could be pretty dangerous they don't offer much grip at the best of times.

This is what I thought really but was curious to see if anyone did. Probably best not to take up valuable energy from partying. Maybe the fact I should be fitter this year will mean I will be able to keep going for longer!!

I run, a bit, before the festival in order to build up enough stamina for the festival fun.

I couldn't do the late nights, the miles of walking, standing, dancing without that preparation.

No way would I have the energy to also run during the festival.

Although I don't run at Glastonbury one of our group who is super fit runs every morning.  I know he goes off site and finishes his run at a pub where he uses the bath room and changes back into his festival clothes, has a pint or 2 and then walks back in all clean and refreshed.

All too much effort for me but it seems to suit him.  Each to their own.....  Just do what ever grabs you...

this thread depresses me.
So many fit people around. Ill be struggling with a dodgy heal as I have for the last two years and daren't do anything more than is necessary. I cycle a lot these days to get some fitness up, but its a losing battle.
All the walking, dancing and fresh air is surely enough excercise for anyone. If it's not, your not doing it right!

Possibly a reason to try barefoot running (or minimal footwear). You pretty much don't put any pressure on your heel that way.

Ignore the child.

Bought a pedometer last night - I know they're a bit crap, but thought I'd get a bit of idea of how far I walk in the 5 days.
