We'll be coming to the festival for the first time this year and I'm really, really excited - been preparing for around 2 months I reckon and I've been avidly watching this forum but as a newbie I'm not much use to anyone at the moment so not contributed much.
The thing is I've become concerned about a few things and I hope someone will be able to put my mind at rest.
1. I've nothing against drugs but stopped taking them myself many years ago. There must be others like me who are just looking forward to the cider? Aren't there?
2. When I bought my ticket I just wanted to go to the festival and expected that I would like some of the line up but possibly not all so was a bit disappointed that some people were so very unhappy about this year's line up - I've got my own views on the whole U2 thing and can understand some feel a bit let down but we'll still have a great time right....surely that's the main thing?
3. The whole hair colour thing which degenerated into .... I don't know what. Please let me know if you are going to the festival and you do not care about hair colour or anything else colour.
Reassure me guys!
Thank you x x x

1) likewise stopped taking drugs years ago, last year i drank a lot of Vodka and red bull ( plus a few Pro plus) which kept me going, along with the ciders. Not everyone does drugs, it would be IMO stupid to suggest or even think otherwise.
2) With over 2000 artists playing on all stages over 3/4 days i am sure there is something you will like, its been said numorous times before, plus you will find yourself just walking around and coming upon something random you will like.
3)
, your not serious right?

1. It's a family festival, not a druggy festival, I wouldn't worry about it. You might see the odd person smoking a joint, but anything more than that, nope, I doubt it.
e2a there IS drug use of course, but you won't SEE it iykwim. The dance village area will probably be more druggy than boozy, but it's only one part of a massive festival.
2. Even if the lineup was complete and utter cack, Glastonbury is so much more than a music festival. You could find things to do for the whole weekend without even seeing the Pyramid.
3. Wear a hat, it'll protect you from the sun too

1) Likewise - haven't done any illegal drugs for many years. I do like a drink but I'm not that bothered when I'm at Glastonbury. There are plenty of natural highs all around and I have found that by drinking too much you can miss out on something very special. But each to their own
2) I don't undertand why people come on this forum and moan about the line-up. I seem to recall 2008 got the most pre-festival line-up moans and even I was aprehensive that year, but it turned out to be probably my favourite year because there was a fanatstic vibe all around and not so much rushing about. It'll be great this year I can assure you
3) I've no idea what you are on about here
My hair is very very grey so I have no prejudice

Thanks for the the replies - maybe I should think about getting some pro plus so's not to miss anything - do they actually work or will a cup of coffee do the same thing?
my partner is also very grey. And quite bald.
Really excited!!!!!

Pro plus? They are ok, just ultra caffeine really. I wouldn't drink coffee because i'm at a festival and will be drinking alcohol so Vodka and red bull gives me that substitute. Last year i tried the natural highs from one of the stalls and with my cocktail of pro plus , natural highs and Vodka and red bull i was pretty wired come early evening! Got pretty mashed so i prob over did it! Woke up the next morning with a glorious hang over though
It is seriously hard to pace yourself when you have been waiting a year for it and you get caught up in the whole atmosphere of it, but i am going to try a bit harder this year!

1) i only drink these days,
(a) because i could be and have been randomly drug tested at work
(b ) I don't seem to miss it and its wasn't doing me any favours
2)Its all about the atmosphere and size of the festival the musics just the extra topping, if its just a sheer number of current and popular bands that people want to see they can piss off to V or Reading
3)I don't get question 3? Not bothered about people hair colour or anything else.

No need to worry about anything. leave real life at home for a few days. Just take an open mind, let others do what they do, you do what you do, take in the atmosphere (doesn't need drugs), listen to some sounds, relax, chill & enjoy.

You're fine on the first two.
But bloody hell, if you turn up with the wrong hair colour you'll be a laughing stock.

Really excited!!!!!
with regards to the pro plus - I got some glucose tablets for a festival in Ireland 3 years ago - worked really well for the bit of get up and go first thing in the morning ! everyone on my campsite was on them by the end of the fest !
on the drugs thing , you'll be fine - prob see more overt drug use in a normal nightclub
repoert back to us after the festival - make sure you take loads of photos - Mike99 demands it

Hi Clareno7
For me
1) No drugs (well except paracetamol for the hangover) but lots of real ale and red wine
2) Glastonbury has a vast amount of stages (can anyone say how many?) I have far more fun away from the main stages and really enjoy listening to music I would not normally listen to
3) Is this a "to dye or not to dye" question? My hair has been gray for years and I have no intention of dying it, but go with what is comfortable for you.
Just remember to be friendly, smile at everyone and you will have a great time

Yeah, I assume it was the stupid talk about gingers in another thread. To be ignored.

1. I'm going to be drug free as always (unless you count alcohol as a drug, which it sorta is)
2. No U2? No problem! It's going to be a blast and i'll look forward to seeing U2 at a Glasto in the future.
3. I'm not going to be prejudist towards anyone for any reason! 'Tis the Glasto spirit!!!

I too gave up drugs a few years back. I love a few vodkas but don't need anything else. I'm on a natural high for the whole festival anyway. You'll have a fab time.
