Just saw Argos have lots of camping gear up to half price at the moment. Was having a browse and was amazed to find this:

Clicky

£6.50 for a tent??!  :P  Would you risk it?! (I hasten to add I won't be - I have a nice, comfy campervan to sleep in!)

Some very good deals on Argos though - worth a look.....

Christ no! Even in the best years of Glasto there has always been atleast one down pour and I don't fancy your chances in that i'm afraid :P

In a word... no!   :P

My friend bought a tesco value tent one year for a festival (I think it was £11) - she was floating around on her lilo by the Saturday night!

I think with tents in particular, you get what you pay for!

"To be honest I'm a normal sized adult and so was my companion, it was the middle of the summer and we were FREEZING at night and BOILING during the day...BUT it did stand the wind/rain/riots! So for the price, I can't really complain :/"

Its not really the tents fault about the weather, i think these conditions kind of come with the whole camping thing

Erm - no!!!  It's a single skin tent with 800mm HH, and looking at the measurements it would suit someone the size of Barbie.

I used my £4 in Woolworths closing down sale tent last year and it was fine - even in the rain.

I suggest buying some waterproofing spray (I bought some in millets last week for £7.99) to spray the seams - I do this on all new tents anyway, regardless of the cost.

I'd be wary of the little square hat it has on the top - I had a previous really cheap tent with one of these that didn't properly cover the mesh bit at the top of the tent, and got drenched inside in the '99 downpours.  If you were to buy it, properly check that the square adequately covers the top.

You've got some time to go before glasto, so if you have a garden you can put the tent up in, you could leave it out in the rain to test it - if it leaks, you take it back to Argos for a refund and still have time to buy a new tent.

I have a tesco tent which has lasted me 5 years of festivals (this year will probably be its last)... but no way would I stoop that low.  I think with cheap tents it is true you get what you pay for, but if it holds for one festival then it'll probably be fine for more.

I know - I read that too! Honestly what did they think it was going to be like camping in the middle of summer!

Oh, and my friend's value tent came with handy black guy ropes.  I think she ended up close & personal with quite a few fellow campers over the weekend as people tripped over them & landed on her.

My friend took a £5 tent from Asda back in 2007 .... the really really wet year. And amazingly it did ok. It was part under the gazebo though but still dry at the end. Not mud free though!

We did have a back up plan though incase it did leak  :P

Nina - as I said, I'm in a campervan this year. And even if i wasn't, I wouldn't risk a cheap tent like this as Glasto (living through '97 and '98 taught me Glasto weather can beat even the best tents!). I only posted this because I can't believe it's so cheap....
