So they've got a good reason for their crying for someone they didn't know.

I wonder what excuse there is for all those who mourned dead Di? Just mindless muppets, perhaps?

I've never understood either the Royal thing or the celeb thing.  They're all just people that we have elevated into positions where we hold them in awe because they look pretty, can sing a bit or shake hands well.  As a journo I covered one of the Queen's Jubilee Tours many years ago and we used to go up to people in the crowd that she'd just shaken hands with to ask if Her Majesty had let slip any interesting nuggets.  But it soon became apparent that she only ever asked two questions "Have you been waiting long?" and "Have you come far?"  For many of the people who shook the Royal Hand it was a really big deal.  "I met the queen and she shook my hand.  She was really interested in me."  Not much different to stars or celebs meeting their fans.

I always laugh at the competitions that let you met x,y or z star / celeb and I always wonder what the hell you say...

"Yeah, I liked your last film"...

"Cheers"...

That's about the end of the conversation isn't it...  The rest must just be an awkward silence :)

I once unexpectedly got introduced to David Byrne by a festival organiser who knew I loved Talking Heads.

organiser: "David, this is Neil, he's probably your biggest fan".

me: "uggggg".

There's just about no worse way to get introduced to someone I reckon. :(

Ian Paisley admitted to hospital. Heart attack. Looks like hes on the way out.

One of the more hated and controversial political/religious figures of our time.

"Save Ulster From Sodomy"

Indeed good Reverend, indeed. Clown.

a study has proven that those with conservative views are less intelligent than those with progressive views.

Well no shit sherlock.

The most amusing part of this tho is that the only paper which published details of this study was .... the Daily Hate Mail.

I once had quite a long conversation with Kevin McKidd, I was speaking to him about that series Rome he did and he said it was nice to speak to somebody about something other than Trainspotting lol

 spot on

"There will be deerstalker hats, depressingly nostalgic 90s dance acts - we'll probably go with Faithless, who are now old enough to be considered ironic - and some fucking thing called The Mystic Dell.
 loved this bit. (Could also be applied to indie/alt acts from the 90s to atm as much I am loving seeing Pulp atm..)
