There is a hell of a lot of festival snobbery around, and I have to admit that Glastonbury snobs are the worse.

PhD in Music Festivals?  WTF!

Nothing really earth shattering in the article.  It basically reads "people at festivals act like people in  general society."  Shocking really.

There are some really odd PhD's on the go. I was doing a course in Crowd Management, and I met a rather pretty young lady that was doing a Phd on "Enclosed Crowd Dynamics" i.e crowds in an enclosed space. More specificaly she was studying the use of exits. I got talking with her on what she meant and I ended up saying "so you are telling me you are studying why people use exits at venues" she simply said "Yes". I did point out that "it is the f**king way out!!!" but then she wittered some bollocks and I became transfixed on her breasts again.

You'd be surprised. There's a thriving field of academic study spanning cultural studies and sociology that's been interested in festivals (and other such cultural phenomena) & their role in identity construction. People have been researching and writing about this stuff for many years.

Actually, the opposite is true about behaviour. People at festivals don't act like people in general society. Certain people are attracted to certain types of festivals (pretty obvious really), but once at festivals people behave differently from the way that the behave in 'normal' society.
