really don't see the facination with camping at the popular spots when other areas have 10 x more room and 10 x less idiots.

Totally! Camped in Pennards last year and never again. I’ve always camped near the flushing toilets up at the farmhouse in years gone by and found it much better. It’s much easier to find your tent with the landmarks in the area and you can get away with a modest social area and Gazebo without looking like a twat. Also being (only just) on the wrong side of 30 I appreciate the more laid back atmosphere when I want to chill out after stumbling back to my tent at dawn.
