Nice to see Clegg standing so firm about their committment to scrap Trident. Oh, hang on...

See also their pledge to scrap university fees, scrapping identity cards, scrapping biometric passports, cutting down non-essential government depts, including the dept for business and banks - which Cable has just become chief of.... the list goes on.

The thing with the Lib Dems is that they can say whatever they like and a lot of people like what they say but as they'll never get into power they can afford to say that, it would appear that when they do have some power they are willing to let those things go by the way side anyway.

Clegg is an utter c**t. Hopefully this deal with the devil will spell the end of his political career, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if in a year or two he was a fully paid up member of the Tory party. He is exactly the same as Cameron and Gideon Osborne in all but name anyway.

I hope and pray he does come to glastonbury - but of course he wont. Cowards and frauds avoid confrontation at all costs.

I finally agree with you - and at no compromise (although the bit about ID cards is technically wrong, and others have pointed that out, although I'm sure if they had differed then Clegg would have abandoned that as well by now)

I simply can't understand how people on Glastonbury forum can salute a man who has passed the keys to number 10, as well as number 11 just as worryingly, to the Conservatives.

I just don't understand that

I don't recall the Con Dem option being on my ballot paper

Funny old days these

Not about Nick Clegg but saw this and laughed.

Link.

This made me laugh a lot.

But to be quite honest, if I came across Nick Clegg at Glastonbury, I would happily shake his hand.

Thanks for resurrecting this thread.  The Common People link is something we all need reminding of from time to time.
I've never voted Tory and can't imagine ever doing so but I have to admire their PR machine which still outsmarts Labour.  By that I don't mean that I admire their policies but you have to recognise that that they handle their presentation well and Labour have still got a lot to get right.
Brown was a presentational disaster but I'm not sure that Labour have now got the right front man in Millipede.  If Labour can't get their act together I fear we may be stuck with Cameroon for a while yet.
As for Clegg I suspect he'll be confined to the dustbin of obscurity unless he converts to Conservatism.  And the Lib Dems will be back in the doldrums for a long time.
It's all a shame because I think the UK could benefit from a healthy three party system (or five if you count the Welsh and Scots Nats).

If anyone wants to see his Glastonbury headlining performance from 2010 - pre-dating the debates that shot him to stardom - here's a clip I filmed of the unpleasant little man. I have to admit I bought this performance completely at the time - what a buffoon I was. Looking at it again the empty rhetoric was there to be seen all the time.

Chris Mullen smoked him out years ago - I recommend his recent diaries if you want to know what was being whispered in Westminster years ago.

I personally feel let down by Clegg and the Lib Dems tbh, although I apreciate they had none/very little option(s). They will be condemd to the political waste land.

I dont agree that Labour have elected the wrong man in Ed, he was my second choice, Burnham being my first. Frankly I think David Miliband would have been a disaster for Labour, yes easy(ish) on the eye and media savy. We don't need that after Blair' non-stop media campaign which lasted his entire tenure! Ed will be good for the party and will find his feet soon enough.

Although I am slightly worried he hasnt signalled what type of leader he will be, or indeed what type of party he intends to lead

Remember, the biggest mistake that Tories made in opposition was bringing out policy after policy after they had been kicked out of government. The fact is, Ed needs to wait to see how the political landscape is formed and looks for the next few years before he forms his own narrative. Labour need to realise that petty infighting will get them nowhere and the longer they wait to unite behind Ed, the harder it will be for them to seem like a credible opposition. They're ahead in the polls and need to utilise this fact. But what they also need to do is considering why they've taken votes from the Lib Dems, but not the Tories. This is really important.

In the case of the Lib Dems, I am still a member and will be standing the local elections this year but not without a lot of regret in the back of my mind. I was very supportive of Nick Clegg's leadership and did a lot of campaigning during the election. But the sheer lack of care for the Lib Dem members in this time is really a great shame. Thankfully we have some very principled back benchers and a brilliant Party President and its because of them that I stay with the party.

If anyone can get this to embed properly I would be much obliged.

When I see direct quotes from before the election I realise that I have the right to be angry with him not so much, given the circumstances, for going back on his promises, but for how achingly sincere he was with those promises in the first place. How can anyone watch this and fail to understand why students feel their first national vote was stolen from them?

....oh - and edited a second time just to say that even if you don't agree with me...what a tune!
