To make matters worse the reluctance of the police to negotiate in advance and deliberately delay any dialogue with us has resulted in our being unable to tie down a final costing for the event. This, along with unexpected legal fees associated with a last minute license review, has radically increased the cost of the festival.
f**ked over by the man.

Its a shame they did not get more support from us punters.
If they sold all the tickets it would still be on.

One of the best festivals I've ever been to - let's hope they can bounce back in future. Glade is completely unique in the UK.

To be fair, strawberry fair was getting out of hand with the amount of utter cretins and general twattish behaviour.
I have friends who live in Cambridge and they can't stand it, every year their gardens and property get abused & trashed and it's the same story for lots and lots of poor residents that have to bear the brunt of such mindless behaviour. One of my friends has had their car damaged no less than three times and on one ocassion had somebody piss in it.
Not just that but it's just become a blatant excuse for everyone just to get wrecked.
I used to go back in the mid-late 90's and it was such a friendly and vibrant attitude. I went in 2008 and it was just dismal and had a very 'edgy' air to it and just didn't feel right or pleasant at all.
f**king k zombies everywhere as well. (one of the problems with glade with the sheer amount of ketamine also tbh)

I am absolutly gutted about this news. I have been there twice, once when I was 17 where I saw Richie Hawtin for the first time and then when I was about 20. Both times I was lucky enough to be bathing in the hottest sunshine in Britain ever watching the dust lift off from the outdoor psytrance stage as gorgeous girls stomped their bare feet! Even used the photo as my profile pic!!
I wasn't going this year but this is still terrible news for more 'underground' influenced festivals.
The one thing that i don't agree with is the comment someone made on the glade page saying that this is due to the influence of Conservatives already!!! That is a ridiculous theory not only because of the timing, but also because Glade is notoriously a rave formed and attended to by public school, conservative hippy students! I am not a public school boy by the way

a real shame. Was the first festival I ever went to, made some great mates at it, people who i've travelled to numerous european festivals with, as well as loads of club nights in the UK, and the same bunch who I will be doing my first Glastonbury with this year.

Indeed, I myself am from an illegal rave background and i have raves to thank for me being essentially who I am now in terms of my interests, ideals and my outlooks on things like politics, and although I loathe the tories most of this clamp down on illegal raves, festivals and small open air events has been going on for a while now - most of the last decade tbh.
In my view its fairly easy to see where this clampdown started from and we have a certain section of the raving community to 'thank' for it.
Raves, especially in east anglia used to go off without a hitch and be such lovely and friendly atmospheres and there used to be a level of understanding that used to coexist between the authorities and the ravers & systems but during the early 00's there was a large influx of a new sort of people (presumably due to the internet and things like myspace, facebook e.t.c) who didn't really share the same ethos & attitude as the current community and it became somewhat of a problem as these people didn't want to be a part of the 'community', they just wanted to get lairy and abuse everything.
Another problem was the sheer explosion of new soundsystems that didn't have a clue what they were doing or employ any common sense at all and some really stupid things started happening. Also with these new soundsystem came this new sort of people who just thought it was all a bit of a laugh and a joke and thought it was hilarious to kick off at the old bill and put their videos up on youtube of them doing stupid things (smashing police cars, vandalising things, throwing bottles and briks at the old bill e.t.c)
There was one REAL culprit who I won't name but many of you probably will know who they are, who should have known better really since they have been around for long enough but decided to employ a 'militant' attitude and do silly things like getting on the microphone and chanting things like "Fire pon dem babylon" and not only that but things like raiding police stations to get their gear back after it was seized... Stupid.... Stupider still is throwing a party just down the road from the old bill station afterwards and having the riot forces of essex, cambs, suffolk and norfolk and instead of just leaving peacefully what do they do? oh yeah, incite a f**king full scale riot .
Sadly, as the older side of the community essentially got forced away from raves due to the utter cretins that started attending as they didn't want anything to do with all the trouble and fuss the level of communication simply broke down the the police really by this time had had enough of raves and the aftermath that used to lay in their wake.
I really don't understand the people today. They all harp on that the police are c**ts and they should go do something useful and they use too much force... I just can't understand at how f**king IGNORANT these people are as these are the same people that created this mess in the first place. (talking about the nu-age so called 'ravers')
They should be ashamed at what they have destroyed, and not only that at the knock-on affect it's had across the country almost.
Pretty much Norfolk alone contributed to the most of this 'war on raves', which sadly includes festivals too.
I think the authorities are afraid of the same thing happening with festivals as happened with raves, and with strawberry fair you can certainly see that happening (see my previous post).
Although, one consolation lies ahead i suppose... The conservatives were partly responsible for the emergence of the rave scene as a backlash to thatcherism... Let's hope there's a backlash to cameronism!
(ps, i think he's a c**t.)

I suspect in the years to come that many festivals are going to come under greater financial pressure due to the cost of police/security/stewarding.
As it stands security now have to be SIA registered and that is a hell of a price to pay. They get beetween 8 and 12 quid an hour and that does not take into account what the cmpany charges. However some in the SIA have their eye on stewarding and want it brought in line with the security at festivals. They do grumble as stewards are not really volunteers (and technically are not). Many companys are now offering NVQ's in stewarding at events, and I can see in a few years that the SIA would have put on enough pressure to make it compulsory to have NVQ staff, and the staff to be paid. Now that will cripple a lot of festivals.
