Na true, just a bit of a non event really. Anyway like I said I am going to give them another chance because I hear people raving about them so surely I am missing something?!

You will love it! Especially at Glasto!  :P

Not every single show is splendiferous and audience atmosphere always counts for a lot. Oh and Phil being in a good mood always helps.

My only worry with the Glasto show is the sound levels because The Prodge last year were utterly utterly shocking soundwise...compared to the power, bass and noise of the Chems in 07 (and expereinced at the Disabled platform far away at the back and it was still tremendous sound there).

The show could become quite shocking and not good for many if the sound levels are as bad as last year as it will just be light with no sound if you are late or at the back...much like the appalling Prodigy show. Eeep! :P

I though...wont be watching silly old droney Faithless  :P so will have a good spot well within the speaker range for the Hartnolls. BUT...saying that...I might just might still give Stevie a go as Glade is looking likely for me now and I'd def be catching them there (with no sound problems - Function One soundsystem :P )

I am very excited about seeing Orbital, presumably there will be lots of others making the mad dash from Faithless?

Absolutely! The only danger is that you might feel like you've seen the headliner once LCD have finished.

Having manged to persuade myself that I'll see the Levellers at BDs and MUST resist the urge to hear Men-an-Tol in a drunken moment  :P  and although Ash are great also they must also be relegated among the other company, it's come down to a choice of two on Sunday night.

Thanks to some recommendations on here I've sat through Innervisions, Songs in the Key, and The Definitive Collection, all of which I've thoroughly enjoyed.....But......

I noticed Stevie is playing at Manchester MEN, and I thought to myself, would I ever consider buying a ticket under normal circumstances? The answer's no, and I've been telling myself and my friends "we have to see Stevie, once in a lifetime, living legend" and all that, but I'd just be going on the offchance of seeing something very special, kind of frightened of missing something syndrome.  :P

Today I played The Girl with the Sun in Her Head, Adnan's and Nothing Left (1&2), and have made the choice, Orbital it has to be, although there are stories of poor live performances on here it's not something I've ever been witness to. So to keep this in tune with the thread, the overall Orbital live experience is something I'd highly recommend.

Although I'm unsure of where I'm going to be within the audience, isn't the sight of a 40 year old bloke dancing like a nutter to a band he's been into nigh on 20 years a bit sad? (Rhetorical question, I'm fast maturing to the stand towards the back gracefully general appreciation state of mind, the mosh pits just don't seem like they used to be) Not like the good old days eh  :P

imho Orbital rule Glastonbury

on the 40th Anniversary weekend no other band could close the 2nd stage on sunday night. none

they almost single-handedly put dance music on the map at festivals and they can (and will) still cut it on what could arguably be their biggest test yet.. never mind '94 when the equipment wasnt working right

they are not a 'heritage' band and they'll have some top new choons to spangle our minds.. dont stop for one

i'll be there lapping it up like a pig in sh!t and couldnt give a flyer who else is on the pyramid showing off to the world via beebtv

save your best til last and follow your heart

and wait for the mincer  :P

Anyone got any idea what they'll DEFFO play?

I have all the orbital studio albums but seem to in a minority that I like a lot of the later stuff more than the Brown and Green album stuff (In Sides and The Middle Of Nowhere being my favourites).

given their tour of 2009 was principally a 'best-of' set (varying on the night a little of course - see many previous ableton threads) they will no doubt play it safe with the more well known stuff such as belfast, halcyon, ch/crime etc but i hope and think they will vary it

there will be new tracks and the odd perhaps more obscure one or two no doubt

what they will deffo DO is their best to make it a set to remember.. the pressure is on and they wont fail

This is what I'm a bit worried about - how good will an orbital show be from behind the sound desk? As that's where most post-Faithless people are going to end up.

I'm sure Lucy will be along to share her OCD shortly too :P

Have lost count of the number of times I've seen them.

Light show will be just as good as Chems, music (IMHO) will be even better - though some other diehards may argue they have gone off the boil a bit since they disbanded in 2004.

In short they're the best live dance act I've seen.
I love Orbital, but not as much as Underworld (back in the day).........

Not sure what you mean, Lucy? Are you implying they'll be on at some point in the Glade?!

If that were to happen, one of my many glasto dreams would become true. The Glade is my favourite place on earth to enjoy dance music. Can't imagine how rammed it'd be though!  :P

As for previous glasto performances by the Hartnolls, they were awesome the one time I've seen em there (2000, Jazzworld I think). A bonkers bus came down the track behind us with all manner of bizarre characters on it. Most memorable set of that particular fest for me.

Nah, they're playing Glade Festival in July too I think Lucy means... www.gladefestival.com

It's the Glasto electionic spin-off thingie.  Went 4 years running up to 08, brilliant so it is.  Pretty decent lineup this year (far better than the Glasto dance village lineup - Jeff Mills!  Autechre!)

Hardest decision I've had to make at a festy is whether to watch my beloved Orbital or the legend that is SW - STILL not 100% sure.

If you've never seen them before and love electronica then there's no finer act anywhere and no finer place to watch them. Yes there's some bitterness and disillusionment towards them for coming back in some quarters but I really don't think that'll be present in the crowd come the gig as it's all about the music (and they're not exactly the first group to split and reform).

The energy they manage to generate live is simply incredible and I actually like the tweaks the add to tunes like 'Halycon' - if I wanted the album note-for-nore then I'd simply put a CD on. Quite simply they look and sound great + generate a great dancing, party atmosphere.

BUT...

If you've seen them a few times before then it's more of a dilemma. Lets face it, SW is a legend of music and as near to unmissable as anything else I can think of. Lucy's said the new sets are fantastic and do mix things up (which makes it even tougher) but pre-breakup they had lost the sense of wonder and excitement a little and the sets, though great, were a little samey.

Will you enjoy it? Yes. Will it have a great atmosphere? For sure. Will you be alternately dancing like a loon and staring at the stars as the music drifts by? Absolutely.

Will it be as unvelieveably memorable and unique an experience as seeing Stevie Wonder on the Pyramid should be? Doubtful. Pains me to say it but true.

I live in hope for a secret Hartnoll DJ set.

I saw that 2 or 3 fests ago and was really unimpressed, but maybe I wasn't in the mood.

Anyway reckon I'll be flitting between Orbital at the Other, and Levellers at Glade depending on what I'm enjoying more at the time.

Thanks for clarifying that : my dreams are shattered!  :P  :P

Can't go to the glade fest, so I will suck it and see as far as sunday night glasto headliners go.

its going to be a very similar scenario to last years end to the festival with blur and the prodigy up against each other... standing (not dancing because after five days partying most peoples legs will be totally knackered!) in the flat featureless, soulless other stage field listening to a big name dance act that are way past their best on a pretty quiet sound system a lot of people will be wondering if they've made the right decision, then later in the night they'll bump into mates/randoms telling them how amazing the atmosphere in the pyramid field was and what an amazing performance they witnessed, then when they get home and see the highlights on tv they'll be kicking themselves for years to come that they missed a once in a lifetime opportunity to see a legendary end to the festival in favour of some has beens knocking out the old same set of tired tunes that they have been/will be trawling round the festival circuit for years to come, i for one wont be making that mistake again!

Speak for yourself :P it's Stevies music that doesn't do anything for me so matter what others say or how good he was and the atmosphere I simply could get more enjoyment from other music I actually like.
