As the title suggests. Supposed to be an excellent band but not sure where to start with them...

Any pointers?

They have such a diverse range of songs it's hard and a bit pointless to just recommend one. So really I'll just say listen to the whole of You Forgot it in People. Once you've listened to that a few times move on to their self-titled third album. The debut, Feel Good Lost, is alot slower and mostly instrumental, so I wouldn't recommend that as a starting point.

If you really just want to spotify a few songs then I'll say Almost Crimes, Cause=Time, Anthems for a Seventeen Year Old Girl, 7/4 (Shoreline), Superconnected and It's All Gonna Break are nice, mostly upbeat tracks that I usually play to mates when trying to suggest BSS.

You forgot KC Accidental. Definitely the highlight of their live set - Drew, Canning and about six others all with their guitars hanging, poised during that pregnant pause before the drums take hold.

BSS are one of my most looked-forward too bands of Glastonbury. All good advice above. Your Forgot It In People is probably the BSS album, though their self-titled one isnt far behind and perhaps in some ways better. Hell, I even like all their early noodly stuff, the KC Accidental albums before that and most of the individual members solo albums and side projects... They truly are an amazing bunch of musicians.

Their website: http://www.brokensocialscene.ca/ is now streaming the new album in its entirety. As expected its both diverse and epic in equal measure.

Ive seen them play live a few times and can assure you they are amazing, sometimes they have like over a dozen musicians on stage... They usually close with the epic Its All Gonna Break so thats well worth checking out.

When I saw them last, their encore consisted of them playing recordings of their neighbours talking about being in love, then rewound them, and (if this makes sense) scored it with music representing the flow of their voice and the subject matter. It was amazing.

Also - check out the two Broken Social Scene presents... albums. I wasn't the biggest fan of Brendan Canning's one, but it's pretty funky, but I thought Kevin Drew's was outstanding. They like to drop Backed Out on the Cocks into their live set

why has nobody mentioned 'stars and sons' either? it's excellent live and pretty much made my reading '06.
all of you forgot it in people is excellent, i can't fault one song.
currently making an animation for 'pacific theme' as it's so wonderfully summery
lover's spit is also a popular tune, featured in a few films etc.
from the new album i'd say my favourite is 'all to all'
