Photos of performers or the crowed?

I had set up a topic called Glastonbury photography but some one decided to close it because I was posting photos of people who were attending the festival and not of the performers on the stage. What to you people think? Do you attend to Glastonbury only because of the line up or because of the atmosphere around it? Is it the crowed that make Glastonbury or the performers?
Personally I believe that its the people in the tents that make Glastonbury a festival to be visited over and over again. The line up of the festival is so unimportant that its not even out when people get to buy their tickets.
We the people that attend such Glastonbury make Glasto what it is. What would the festival be with out the people attending it?
What would you people prefer to see? photos of the performers (which are seen on every magazine) or photos that show what you have gone through?
I feel that the photos I took in Glasto represent the heart and soul of what Glastonbury is all about. Its what makes Glastonbury. The festival is not only made by the line up but also by the people that attend it. The people who travel miles to go to such events. The people who buy a ticket nearly a year before they even pack their bags to go to the festival. As for me and my friends we make it every year to this festival strait from Malta because of the atmosphere there is in Glasto. People like us come over to meet with friends which we made over the years.

I think the fact that you kept bumping your own thread with your pictures and not really posting anywhere else gives the impression that you were advertising your photography rather than talking about the festival and sharing memories. Hence why your thread was closed.
I agree that the people make the festival as much as the bands and other entertainment, so why not share some of your favourite memories along with your photos...

I love looking at photos of all the people that go to Glasto. As you say, there's plenty of pics in magazines with band shots so it's nice to see people just wandering around.
edit: like mandypants said...it did kinda feel like an advertising thread of your work...bloody good pics though!

i love seeing people have fun
sounds creepy but i honest to god get a kick out of seeing people having the time of their life and just dancing to a band like its the last thing they'll ever do.
or standing back from a distance and seeing a crowd jump as one and the whole things morphing. Looking bacwkards during Song 2 gave me that last year. Insane.

To be fair, whilst I can see the point re the constant bumping of the thread being annoying to some, this did seem to be down to George's genuine enthusiasm.
What I don't understand is the fact that there appears to have been one negative post and the whole thread's locked, which does seem a shame as there were certainly many more regular posters than just George in the thread, helpful advice was being given to other potential photographers and most importantly of all it was being used to organise a meet up for any photographers who were interested.
I don't know if any pms had been sent to George re the constant bumping but if not the closing of the thread seems a bit draconian.

I am not that good at writing, that is why I picked up photography. Photos say much more then words. How can you put in words the expression on some one's face.
Each photo takes much more work and time to edit and convert to black and white then writing a couple of lines.
People were asking questions about photography and I tried to reply to most of their questions. I even offered a couple of extra lenses of mine for free to people who were interested in them as I wasn't using them any more.
Not every one tries to sell his photography. I try to promote photography as its hobby that turned into some thing more important for me.

I didn't say that you were selling, simply that it did look a bit like you were advertising, which is not allowed. Like I said, try to join in a bit more as well as posting your photos and it'll be fine

Always love photography threads as there are some very talented photographers on these boards & yours was very welcome reading for me George. Considering the amount of space taken up by brain-dead tossers whining about the f**king line-up it made for a breath of fresh air. Keep up the good work!

Echo what is said above.
I found the thread to be extremely interesting and to somone like myself who is only just starting to take an interest in DSLR photography George has been wonderfully helpful.
Hopefully the thread can be re-opened and the discussion continued?

I thank you all for the support. It seems that my work was appreciated by a lot of you people but not by the administrator. Sorry for all of you but I don't think that I will be posting any more photos here no to compromise this this thread too. I will be more then happy to help any one though with any question about photography.
I do understand though in such a material world that we live in today there are a lot of people who try to make use of every excuse to make money. I am sorry that I was misunderstood but now enough said about that.
So what do you think about Glasto? is it us who attend the festival that make it what it is?
I personally go to glastonbary and take my wife and kid too with me because of the people, the atmosphere, and the friendship that is in the air.
I was never in such a place were you made friends with people so easily, were every one was so helpful, were every one forgot about the hectic daily life.

I think the fact that you register and then spend a never ending hour or two trying to get a ticket all ready starts you to get exited about the opening date. Its a never ending circle. As soon as you are out of the gates of the festival you are on the way home to book for the next year. You would still be full of mud and hyped up from what just went on and you want more. Then you start looking at facebook and other forums ( not this one cos they don't like you to post photos hehe (don't block me for the joke now)) and you start seeing photos of the event. You start to see what you might have missed or you might have been to pissed to notice. You start to make plans for the next time over and you make a resolution to be more sober the next time. But like it or not the atmosphere is so great that you cant hold back having a great time and no matter what you miss you go home with so many great memories and friends.

*Hangs face in Shame*
I still stand by my last post on Georges other topic, it was my honest appraisal of the thread.
I may have been wrong.
George has sent me a long PM and has set some seeds of doubt. I have replied with an apology offered if it wasn't his intention to self promote his (lets face it, really excellent) photographs.
Can we put a line under that and move on.
I'm off to look out for some links to some great photographs that are not your usual 'Musician on a stage'. And I hope that George takes more time to join in other banter going on in these boards.

Can't see that image Staber, but the URL is distinctly odd...
It is a shame that the photography thread was closed down. The Favourite Images thread is a great one for posting photos in, but god forbid anyone tried to actually discuss Glastonbury photography in it as that then got someone else's back up. George's thread seemed perfect for exactly that sort of discussion. If he was guilty of bumping it a tad too often then a simple pm asking him to group his postings and to post slightly less frequently would have been more apropos in my book.

Thanks once again for your support people. Sorry for those that are sending me messages but I cant reply to you as also function that has been blocked. To al of you people who intended to meet up in Glasto you can all let me know when and were to meet. For those people who I had promised those lenses I will bring them with me for you.
Ian I did get your message but I was blocked from answering you back. I will have your 70 300 mm with me (to make it clear it is for free so that no one thinks that I am making money off this forum too)
Staberinde I did read your message and hope that you received my reply back.
I hope to meet you all my newely made friends in glasto.
And Staberinde I am counting on that beer

James you echo my thoughts exactly mate, it was a good thread.
Just been thinking though to help George, not to have to bump as much, I'm more than happy to post the odd image every few days, so to start off a favourite place if not image

Cheers
Ian
