I know this is a bit off the glastonbury topic, i went to see the King Blues at Newcastle last night, they played the Acadamy 2 to a packed crowd and played an excellent show, there were 3 support bands on with them, mouthwash who played a similar sort of ska rock to the king blues and fitted in well. Even the first band werent too out of context with the music on the night. However in all my years of going to gigs the other support band, Moral Dilemma, a London based punk trio were the most out of place support i've ever seen. Most of the audience were looking at eachother as if to say 'what the f**k is this' !
Anyone else witnessed any bizarre support choices ?
and if you want this post to be Glostonbury centric, then i hope the king blues play glastonbury this year.
Moral Dilemma go to download or leeds instead please !

Kelis supporting U2 in 2001 at Manchester - Normally I quite like Kelis, but she was dire - very very very dire!
Kings of Leon supporting U2 in 2005 in the US - they were woeful
Travis supporting Oasis in 1997 at Newcastle - they were crap that night, and they pretty much remained crap
... Will have to have a good think - i've seen some shockers!

couldn't agree more. they were one of my favourite bands at glasto 09, they played a brilliant set. their live performance was much better than i expected.
as for poor support bands, the horrors were supporting arctic monkeys at ally pally in 2008 and they were horribly bad. they got quite a lot of abuse which nobody deserves, but they were poor beyond the meaning of poor.

how about ida maria supporting courteeners? that involved a lot of piss being thrown her way.
bangles supporting simple minds in 86this was during the libyan row when they where threatening to bomb the uk. I guess they miss judged the crowd when one of them said we should grateful for their willingness to travel during the terrorist threat! went down like a lead balloon that one!

James Morrison supporting Bruce Springsteen. Boring beyond belief, I would have been as well painting the person in front of me an watching them dry.
Beverly Knight supporting Santana. Jeezzzz.

I saw an Australian boy band support Michael Jackson in 97 in Dublin and they were by far the worst I've ever seen. They didnt even have the f**king intelligence to put some "pretend" musicians on the stage. They just came out and danced and mimed to a CD for 45 minutes. It was a stadium show! 50,000 people. c**ts.

I remember the Horrors supportsing Arctic Monkeys! They where absolute garbage!
The worst support band ive ever seen is Max Tundra by a country mile though he was supporting Hot Chip in Southampton back in 2008. We went because my girlfriend at the time injured herself at glasto which made me miss their set
so she got me tix for my bday.

As mentioned on another thread - Chicks on Speed supporting the Chillies.
The Twang supporting the Wonder Stuff last Christmas. Ye gods they were offensively bad.
Some completely obscure bangra act supported Robert Plant about 10 years ago at Wolves Civic - I have absolutely no idea quite why they decided to choose them - it'd be like Roy Chubby Brown supporting the Pope's Christmas Address. I've never seen an audience care less about a band, which in a way is a bit naughty - I at least TRIED to listen. But they were rank.
John Squire supporting REM - all he needed was a T-shirt saying 'get me out of here' and his not-giving-a-shit attitude would have been complete. Atrocious.

The Watt Roy Turner band supporting Curved Air at the Liverpool Stadium in about 1973! They were awful and so loud people were running out with their ears bleeding!!

I was about to post a response giving max tundra as mine but my computer locked up! We saw them in Cambridge, to be honest Hot Chip weren't much cop on the night. Seemed to be going through the motions. Funnily enough just before Max we were talking about our worst ever support bands, previous to that it was Cornershop supporting Therapy? in about 93.

I saw Radiohead support the Sultans of Ping FC in the Barrel Organ in Birmingham about 1992, they were shite and have never improved.

Fair enough!
Saw the Charlatans at Brixton Academy a few years back & they had The Feeling supporting them. Hadnt heard of them before that gig but I was mildly irritated not just by the godawful music but also the frontman asking the 30 people that were watching them to PUT YOUR HANDS UP BRIXTON! That mild irritation has since increased to a major one with their increase in popularity over the years
I also saw a band called Selfish C*** supporting the Libertines a few years ago that had to be seen to be believed. The gig ended with the power being cut & the lead singer swinging punches at stage hands who were trying to get him off stage. Biggest cheer of the night when a massive security guy 'sorted him out' on stage in front of the watching crowd

A dodgy emo band supporting Hayseed Dixie on one of their tours. A lot of the weird support bands buy into a tour, or are placed by agents.

I saw Rialto supporting Dodgy at the Irish Centre in Brum in about 96. I think Rialto supported everyone back then. Always the bridesmaid, never the bride...

I saw a band called Locust I think supporting the Yeah Yeah Yeahs at the Forum, Kentish Town, a few years ago, they were pretty dire.
But I topped it last year with the support for the Stranglers in Cambridge, can't remember the name of the band but it was 2 guys miming shovelling. Really bizzare. I'm sure they were meant to be tongue in cheek but it didn't work on any level.

I'm not familiar with Moral dillema but dont understand how a Punk band are out of place on a King Blues tour.
as for dodgy supports Presidents of the USA always seem have a bizzare selection.
