Hi everyone,

Have been watching this forum since I put a deposit down in October so thought I would get round to introducing myself!

I'm making the trip from New Zealand this year especially for Glasto and can't wait! Have been following the festival since I got my hands on Muse's Pryamid set in 2004 and must have watched that performance  at least 30 times.

Didn't realise that Muse would be playing this year when I put the despoit on my ticket down so i'm really quite excited that by complete chance I will be seeing the band that first introduced me to Glasto at the venue itself! Going to try and see as much of the festival as possible and really think it's going to be a life changing experiance.

Equally excited about trying a much hyped Brothers cider.

Thanks for the discussions I look forward to following this forum on the build up!

Ah, this is one of those nice full circle stories that makes me feel all warm inside.

My first G was 2004... I travelled over form Perth after making a decision based on the headliners and then confirmed it by dropping out of my uni course. Yeah, decisions based on headliners. What was I thinking? Anyway. I live here now mainly so I can go every year, also cause there's so much more interesting culture around here. But mainly for Glastonbury. So Muse on the Pyramid this year will be a nice story for me too. Hope your tale has a few more twists and turns in it like mine :P

Classic - perhaps the cosmos will go full circule once more I will be end up in your position in six years time with another newb making the pilgramidge from the southern hemisphere.

Of all the first Glastonburys to attend 2004 much have been a ripper!!! Everyones tastes are of course different but I personally can't imagine better acts to see at your first glasto than Muse and Macca - must have been an amazing experiance!

Hello there Mark H and welcome to the efest forums. :P

Firstly I would just like to say it was really nice to read your post about how you came to realise how Amazing Glastonbury really is and honestly it will be life changing! When you arrive on the wednesday i presume? The sheer size of the place will probley make you gasp another breath as it appears down in the hills, and when you get in and set your tent up just watching the place fill up around you is just magical, i remember the first time i saw the festival was just full of excitement and tingling all over. I've only been twice first year was 08 then 09 and this year being my third and many more to come! :P

And secondly that MUSE performance in 2004 i have watched countless times it really is the best set i have ever seen them do, although i havnt actully seen them live so seeing them at Glasto in June will be my first and i cannot wait!

To be honest the lineup was what got me there (I'd considered it before but never thought I'd actually make it) but once I was there I didn't worry about seeing too many acts. I made sure I caught four or five must-see bands but aside from that it was the spirit of everyone I met that blew me away and I found a lot of answers in that field. I went on my own that year but every time I go back the group snowballs - we've got a facebook group of 56 (and counting!) this year, half of them are travelling a LOT further than I am!

It's funny how these full circle storys happen! Mine was the same sort of thing but alot less millage ! Growing up my best friend and my fav band was blur! We never got a chance to see them :-( my friend went to the last glasto pre super fence! And had tried to convince me to go for years , anyway after a messy break up from my ex, we decided last year was the year ! Booked the deposits and got ready and turned out that blur headlined ! An for me was one of the finest most emotional performances I have ever seen! A real life changeing week in my life ! Strange how that one week made me forget all the crap that I had been through ! Now I'm not seen without a huge smile ! All I have to do is think of that moment , when we got to pennards pitched the tent and got the beers out :-)
you are in for THE treat of your life!!!!!!

Thanks everyone for the kind replies! Really interesting to hear other full circle stories.. guess that's just the festival working it's magic!

I arrive in London late on the 19th so have a few days to get over the lag before making the trip to Glasto. Have booked on National Express at 9.30 on Wednesday morning so hoping to get the tent up around midday and then start the exploring.

I can't belive that 6 months have already passed since I put my depsoit down - that's totally flown by!! Just a token 2 months to go now and we will all be amongst it.

Also - Markee, trip from N.Z is a solid 24 hours with a few stoped over at Singapore... don't think it would be possible to get any futher away!!

2004 was my first too! Cried my eyes out at McCartney and haven't looked back since. Only lost my wristband last year when it literally rotted and fell off.

Good times!

A lot of faith in National Express, I see! In 04 I was on the 10am coach and got my tent pitched at around 7pm. Yeah, we broke down and that was when ticket collection was done offsite, but I'd be expecting to arrive at 1 or 2... makes it all the more sweet when you get that first beer out :P

Hi Mark,

Welcome to this board and your future visit to Glasto.  You absolutely love it and it'll be well worth the 24hour flight.  My 73 year old Mum recently visited Rotorua from the UK, slept on and off most of the journey and said she never suffered from any jet-lag!  Hope you're as lucky but I'm sure the excitement coming across you'll be too excited to sleep.

Don't be put on by some of the negativity and bitching on this forum.  It can get quite intense sometimes but you'll see none of that at the Festival.  Everyone is very friendly and nice when you get there.  I can only put all the on-line fighting down to how passionate everyone is about the festival and the particular music they like or dislike.

All the best.

Hi there Mark H

its ace to see your going to get to see Muse, i'll bet when then start up you will have shivers all over, like the first time you see the pyramid Stage.

dont know if you have looked on the efestivals world cup thread? but have a wee look, its titled cheerleaders/players...now full (or something) we will be doing this again this year, and as Rest of the World Cheif, i cant offer you an automatic place, but if there are pull outs before the day, id love to have an antipidean on the squad, if you fancy it of course, if not come along and have a cheer/laugh at us all.

And if i could offer one piece. Come along to one of the many efests meets that we have during the festival, i did at my second festival, and regretted not doing it at my first, real nice people, no matter what you read on here  :P
