Weren't they rumoured for this year after apparently signing up last June? How come they've dropped off the list?

I've just got tickets for Taylor Hawkins' band at Academy 3 in Manc which is only 2 weeks after Glasto so I know he's around (he's playing London in May) and Them Crooked Vultures are at Download a couple of weeks before with a gaping hole over the Glasto period before hitting more gigs in Europe in July. What are the chances of either playing? Could see a slot before U2 for the Foos or before Muse for Crooked Vultures.

Thoughts?

Good news.

The only reason they are big is because Dave Grohl drummed in Nirvana. They have written some catchy songs, The Pretender is prettey decent but other than that they are your average rock band :P

Yes, it helped in the initial boost, but if the Foos had no fanbase of their own would they really be headlining Wembley Stadium over 12 years later?  Being "that guy from Nirvana" can only get you so far before people get bored.

I agree. I unfortunately used to dislike them, just writing them off as a mediocre rock band.

However, after seeing them live, it changed my perception of them entirely. They're just there to have fun, play some loud music. And they write some damn fine catchy rock songs, no denying that!

The Foo's seemed to be the first band to overkill in the Uk

Then they handed the baton to The Killers who then handed it to KOL.

KOL better not hand it back to Foo's

Agreed. I know loads of ex grunge fans who loved the Foos back then but can't stand anything past the second album. They've changed and so has their fanbase. Bet half of them don't even know he was in Nirvana these days!

I was just asking cos my Mrs and her sister are massive fans. I can take or leave them and am very much under the "once you've seen them, you don't really need to do so again" banner. Would love to see Crooked Vultures play though - that's one seriously funky rock album.

they were, because of something Michael said when giving a talk about this time last year ... but like many things that far into the future, it never really looked too much like it was really going to happen even before Grolh got more diverted with TCV than he probably expected to.

when you consider 1) Grohl played every instrument bar one guitar part on the Foo's debut album 2) where the Foo's are now in the music world 3) the reception TCV are getting at the moment and 4) the numerous artists Grohl has played/drummed for, AND THEN look back at Nirvana -

do you still consider Grohl just as 'that guy from Nirvana' or is there any chance that he might have some talent of his own and have been a considerable part of what Nirvana were?

Ah but you see...........he was that guy from Nirvana, and if the Foos did not have him in the begining would they have lasted? Hard to definitively say, but in my humble opinion................"No" they would not have............he brought them to a massive world wide audience without trying.............how many new up and coming bands can do that?

He gave a mediocre band a platform to sell some tunes and it caught on........fair balls to them.......but my cup of tea they aint

I have seen them numerous times a festivals and not once have I went...........Ah! Now I get it.........They are crap IMO

or another way to look at it is nothing he's done since nirvana has come close and he didn't even play on nirvanas best album!

But conversely, look at Kris Novoselic.  He started over with Sweet 75, and how many people have heard of them?

Grohl never used Nirvana's name when forming the Foos, and the band would never have even started if Grohl's friends hadn't sent the pocketwatch demos to record labels.  I think it's fair to say Grohl tried to be as humble as possible in respect to Nirvana, and he can't help it if he has that history.  To say they would never have made it without Nirvana is a massive "what if" that is simply impossible to know.  Making it big is always going to involve a certain amount of luck no matter how great a band is, so you could say these what ifs for any band.

You liking them or not is completely irrelevant.
