fatyeti24
Indeed. I have just added 4 Breakestra tracks to the Efestivals Spotify playlist. They are a contempory band who play authentic 60s/70s style soul n funk. Get the playlist and have a listen.

dost
Mos Def Perhaps the most innovative and compelling figures in hip hop today, Mos Def makes his first trip to Glastonbury and a rare outing for his full live band. Musically prolific since the mid '90s he’s set to follow up 2009’s ‘The Ecstatic’ with a new album in collaboration with Jay Electronica. Femi Kuti & The Positive Force Son and heir to the legendary Fela Kuti, Femi takes the Lagos originated Afrobeat of his father and turns into a sonically leaner 21st century force all his own. Breakestra & Charli 2na Probably the best funk band in the world, LA’s Breakestra team up with Jurassic 5 front man, Charli 2na. Party Time! Mariachi El Bronx Much loved LA punk band asked to play un-plugged set. Acoustic punk sucks so decide to do it in a full blown Mariachi style. Hence, amazing version of Prince’s ‘I Would Die 4 U’ closely followed by album. Rest, history. tUnE-YaRdS New England native, Merril Garbus is an extraordinary live performer who takes strands ranging from afro percussion to low-fi folk create a new kind of different. This will be her first trip to the UK with a full live band. Matthew Herbert Big Band Totally uncompromising and hugely compelling, Matthew Herbert has performed all manner of sonic wizardry from the Hollywood Bowl to the Sydney Opera House and worked with artists as diverse as Dizzee Rascal and Quincy Jones. Here he brings a 20 piece orchestra and a 40 strong choir to open the West Holts Stage in considerable style. W E S T H O L T S S A T U R D A Y 2 6 TH J U N E George Clinton with Parliament / Funkadelic Arguably the most influential figure in black music over the last fifty years, George Clinton certainly rivals only James Brown as the most sampled musician ever. The creator of P-Funk ran Parliament and Funkadelic throughout the '70s before embarking on a solo career from the early eighties spawning hits like Loopzilla and Atomic Dog. Jerry Dammer’s Spatial AKA Orchestra He may have been the Specials’ main songwriter but Dammers was never one for a cosy reunion. This 40 piece orchestra, featuring some of the UK’s (and Jamaica’s) best jazz and reggae musicians, celebrates musical mavericks like the great Sun Ra in a dazzling display of creativity that is visually stunning as it is musically triumphant. Os Mutantes Legendary Brazilian psychedelic pioneers who helped spawn the Tropicalia movement with musicians like Gilberto Gil and Tom Zé. While the former went on to become a Government minister OM took a lot of acid and eventually faded from view in the mid '70s. Figures as diverse as Kurt Cobain and David Byrne begged them to reform and in 2006 the band re-united for a performance in London followed by an acclaimed new album last year. Devendra Banhart Heralding the whole freak folk phenomena when he brought out his first album in 2002, Devendra’s cosmically trippy music is actually all about killer tunes, loose-limbed grooves and an exceptional unique voice. Glastonbury debut and about time too. Bassekou Kouyate & Ngoni Ba With Damon Albarn and Fatboy Slim amongst their many fans Bassekou has already travelled far beyond his original mission of resurrecting the ancient Malian stringed instrument, the Ngoni. The Independent even called them “the best rock’n’roll band in the world”. Phenomenal Handclap Band Imagine the Tom Tom Club mixed with two shakes of Santana and one part T Rex poured over a long glass full of crushed ice Brooklyn cool and you’d just about have this cocktail right. Brother Ali Minneapolis MC Brother Ali pulls off an almost unique trick of producing rhymes that are socially conscious but not preachy and street smart but cliché free. His fifth album, Us sums up his stance, “there is no me, there is no you – it’s just us”. Troy Ellis & the Longshots Son of the legendary Jamaican producer Alton Ellis, Troy is now based in the West of England and fronts up this great band covering ska, rocksteady, roots and lover’s rock. W E S T H O L T S S U N D A Y 2 7 TH J U N E Rodrigo y Gabriela Our favourite Mexican metalheads return to close the stage on our 40th birthday. Five years ago they may have been busking Slayer and Metalica tunes on the streets of Dublin but last years album of original compositions 11.11 has propelled them firmly into the international superleague. Quite the most extraordinary guitarists you could hope to see. Toots & the Maytals They may or may not have invented reggae but Toots Hibbert and Co. certainly invented the word with their 1968 hit, ‘Do the Reggay’. From their early days with Studio One working with the house band, the Skatalites through featuring with Jimmy Cliff in the film, The Harder They Come, Toots & the Maytals epitomise the most joyful period of Jamaican music. Quantic & His Orchestra Bárbaro In 2007 Will ‘Quantic’ Holland moved to Cali, Columbia and set about working with an esteemed group of local and interantional musicians. This lead to ‘Tradition in Translation’ the sublime album that came out last year on the Tru Thoughts label. Staff Benda Bilili A group of paraplegic musicians who live in the grounds of a zoo in the Congolese capital, Kinshasa have undoubtedly made an impact like few others over the last year. Their debut album, Très Très Fort (Very Very Strong or Very Very Loud) captures their exuberant sound influenced by the Godfather of Soul and the tropical grooves of Cuban rumba. Dr John The original Night Tripper, Dr John has spent over five decades cooking up that rich gumbo of rock‘n’roll, blues, funk, boogie woogie and zydeco that he has made uniquely his own. Having collaborated with the Rolling Stones, Van Morrison, Lou Reed and many others, he brings his own band to Glastonbury to celebrate his rich New Orleans heritage. Tunng Their first three albums were wildly inventive and full of contrasts, both light and dark, urban and bucolic but always personal and intimate. Following a unique live collaborative tour with desert nomads Tinariwen, Tunng released ‘And Then We Saw Land’ earlier this year they have added a new found swagger to their unique vision. The Bees Through shades of ska, garage and country, not to mention a much loved cover of Os Mutantes ‘A Minha Menina’ the Bees outernational stance makes them somehow as quintessentially English as a chicken tikka masala. Fabulous 4th album out this year. THAT'S WHO

Beaver89
top marks, A* and a lollipop for dost there! Tbh I don't know many of them but that is the point in glasto, to discover new things. Also I don't spend much time at that stage anyway but have already discovered several great band thanks to that wonderful technological godsend: Spotify. There is no need to slag off the line-up. The nature of the stage is that it is no way shape of form mainstream - its as it's old name suggests: Jazz and World music - i.e. different cultures and different music from the rock and pop we are force fed. Therefore largely unknown if tied to radio 1 (like myself). Don't worry OP there will be many bands on the other stages to fill your boots with standard festy fayre. (As I will be doing!) Wouldn't mind checking out Tunng though among others and seriously frustrated about the RyG clash with Stevie
