That really is not a good name for the system as to me it suggests doing the exact opposite of what they want: drinking even more.

I don't really get what this means. I thought your pass out was your wristband?

They are doing this to stop people selling/transferring their wristbands as they leave, last year loads of touts and chavs were buying peoples wristbands off them (even after the headliners had finished) so presumably these people came in on the rob or to cause trouble.  Makes sense to do it, stops people getting an offer of some cash and giving up their wrist band when they are leaving to go home,or if they do do it prevents the people buying them from getting in because they won't have a pass out.
