A cyber-scammer who conned music lovers out of thousands of pounds has been told he will go to jail if he cannot repay the cash.

Crowthorne fraudster Ashley Davis tricked concertgoers into paying for gig tickets he did not have, using internet sites including eBay, Gumtree and ScarletMist.com.

The 22-year-old sold non-existent tickets for popular events like Reading Festival and V-Festival for up to £720 to earn a total of £8,500 between July 2008 and August 2009 and help him avoid getting a job.

To be fair if people are stupid enough to hand over cash without having the ticket in their hand deserve it.

Not sure if thats an attack on thread starter considering who it is but either way you're an idiot. Why shouldn't we put our trust in genuine websites like scarlet mist who want the best for music fans? Just because 1 in every 10,000 ruins it doesnt mean its full of scammers and touts.

It's not an attack on anyone. I've used Scarlet Mist before, one three occasions now. I have been a buyer twice and a seller once, on neither occasion did I expect money to be sent before I had the ticket or had given it to the person I was selling it to. I've met in person and done a straight swap three times.

Scarlet Mist does encourage face-to-face transfers. It also offers an Escrow service for when that is not possible.

Personally I would be unwilling to send £400 to an unknown person with no recourse or comeback if they disappear with my money.

Unfortunately there have been people whose trust has been misplaced, and who have lost money as a result.
