Hi Guys,

I am conducting some research into the role of music festivals, and want to hear your views about whether music festivals provide the right kind of environment to bring about social change i.e. are they educational? I am specifically interested in looking at the role of music festivals in educating people about climate change. There are no questions to answer, just wanted to start a discussion really, and love to hear some specific examples of festivals that may have provided people with experiences of a changing nature, good or bad!

your views are much appreciated and will contribute towards valuable research in the music festivals and climate change field.

Thanks!

I think that they are as good as any event to educate since they gather a lot of people.

Then, as any event, it depends on the festival reputation.

A legendary festival image can suit very well educational purposes.

Then, i must say that festival aren't really eco-friendly, consuming a lot of energy for the shows and transport of people. + they generate a lot of wastes...

I've noticed Reading and V festivals becoming more and more keen on recycling over the last 4 years or so which indirectly links to climate change. The beer cup returns are an example. I wouldn't say it's an education but seeing kids walking around and collecting paper cups to exchange for money is only going to be a good thing.

Also the recycling of plastic bottles into missiles aimed at unfavourable acts has been in place for many years!
