Even though i'd rather someone different from the both, and arcade fire isn't my cup of tea.. i'd rather the libs over them anyday even though probably won't turn up due to petes drug addict. just glad pedulum are on NME

I have a feeling they will have a couple more big bands on lock up stage when arcade fire are on. Just like Enter Shikari and Pendulum are on NME stage.
I know where i will be, So i think you can guess my reaction to Arcade Fire

Arcade Fire, in the (kinda) dark, will be absolutely stunning. Can't wait.

Come on, they weren't a major band when they split up and they were a band that had big things expected for them but split too soon to achieve and their other bands since then aren't headline material either. Considering they got a slot played by Prodigy (a truly huge band who should be a headliner) last year you can't really complain.

Why should they be headlining? They were no where near headlining level when they split up, and the popularity of their type of music is no where near as popular as it was back then. To be honest they're lucky to still be thought of as such a coup!
And no, the same does not apply to Blink - The popularity of the likes of Paramore, Falloutboy, YMA6, All time low etc. Prove their type of music is still going strong, and when they last played Reading they were second on the bill just before releasing one of their biggest albums.

I'll proclaim myself an 'indie fag', though I've moved on from all that.
I have avoided Friday and Sunday at Reading because it's full of shit. I hate bands like Paramore, Weezer, Blink, and especially Pendulum/Enter Shikari which is 14 year old skater shit.

I'm not 14.. and nither am i a skater?
i like pendulum and enter shikari.. don't see how you can say that i know a lot of normal people who are my age and older & like them;S

For anyone who thinks Arcade Fire shouldn't headline, without sounding rude, do yourselves a favour. Go see them. Trust me. They are ball-blowingly awesome live.

No one is doubting their abilty, it's just that they're not a household name. It's like the reverse of the Red Hot Chili Peppers when they headline, big name but shit preformance.

Why do people insist on using these, frankly bizarre, stereotypes? Why not say "it's not my cup of tea" and leave it at that?!

Everyone has to have a first headline slot at some point.

Personally i would prefer a band to headline because of the qualtiy of their live shows than their popularity.
Most people bitching are just stupid Doherty fans that havnt even listened to Arcade Fire

Exactly right. Arcade Fire will go on to headline many a festival, because they have the talent to do so. They will be out of this world in August and will prove to be worthy headliners.
For those that like that sort of thing, obviously!

The Libertines are a classic example of style over substance. They made one good record and one dreadful record and all of the things that have a lot of people wetting their pants over them ("realness", "chaos", "spontaneity") doesn't transfer well to a headline spot. They just don't have the product or the track record.

I doubt this. It's part of the same 'genre' really. Anybody who bitches AF are silly, if they haven't heard them. If they have, then fair play.
For me, as a Libertines fan, Arcade Fire is the perfect way to chill out still buzzing from the set. Cannot wait

Was it really dreadful? Can't Stand Me Now, What Katie Did and Likely Lads as singles.. the rest was really introverted and full of brilliance. I understand Arctic Monkeys, after a brilliant debut, produced the perfect follow-up which Libs certainly didn't do. But please remember that the Libs self-titled album was cobbled together. And would urinate on a lot of stuff nowadays. Also the singles that never made it onto albums.. What A Waster, and two of their best songs Don't Look Back Into The Sun and The Delaney
