Id Like to see Arcade Fire do a big set on Piro.
But Gnr, n dont get me wrong, I was a massive fan, but isn't it just Axel n some randoms. Not like when I saw them back in 92 on the use you illusion tour. Awesome to the nth degree.
Glasto '10 will, as usual, blast the others away, not only in headliners, but also the sheer amount of acts over 4 days.

I'd understand if they were headlining, but reforming for a support slot isn't a massive deal, it's not exactly their night. It's good for their fans, but I don't see it as a revelatory moment to be honest.
That's a ludicrous statement. Firstly you're saying it would be a big deal if they were headlining but not because they aren't? So the position someone plays on the bill is all important? I find that a very strange suggestion. Secondly, what do you mean it won't be their night? Are you being serious? So The Libertines playing ISN'T the biggest story from the Reading line up? Obviously they didn't agree to it until after headliners were in place but all of the hype is going to be about them. NME are leading with them as they "launch" Reading and Leeds this week. And you can guarantee they will have the biggest crowd on the Saturday (no disrespect to Arcade Fire).

I don't understand this Libertines stuff. Did they pass me by or something, how come they are now this revered band where loads of people are desperate to see them reform. Weren't they just mediocre with one good song?
Frankly Pete Docherty is an idiot who when I was dragged to see could barely sing, hs guitar playing was poor and the songs meant nothing to me whatsoever. And the rest of them are not much better. Just stop it and find bands that make better songs there's lots of them

WTF have you got to feel envious about! Reading weekend pass for three days is £252 FFS. At Glasto you get so much more than music for £190!
I don't care whos playing at Leeds or Reading, i would not be paying £252 for anyone.

Them reuniting should leave a lot of people thinking "We got so excited about this?"
The R/L lineup is weak piss. Be glad Glastonbury isn't serving up the same lower half of the lineup as last year

Does it mean they should overshadow Arcade Fire? No
I think if a line up is set up properly, the last band should be the big event. That's not to say the 2nd down band can't be amazingly good (if their performance exceeds the headliner then fair enough), but they shouldn't really be upstaging the headliner with publicity.
I agree there's an argument to be made that Libertines will probably have a bigger crowd than Arcade Fire, and it is more of a special occasion for them, but that's a big mistake for Mean Fiddler in that case. Of course the NME are going to print it as their lead story. If any band characterises NME, it's The Libertines, so it suits their target audience and sells them the most copies.
Like I said before, it's great news for their fans. I think you're overreacting a little though, no one's said anything against the Libertines.

If I went to a festival because of line-ups I doubt I'd ever have gone to Glastonbury in the first place but as it is, I go for the experience which is second to none

WOW! £252 for a ticket - that has shocked me. Went to Leeds in '04 and I think it was less than £140!
I was having a giggle earlier at how shit the lineup is this year, seems I'm in the minority. Couldn't pick out much I'd bother seeing

And the Libertines really anit that big a deal, they didn't seem to be that big before they split, its nothing like the Blur reunion, its really over hyped. I am not saying I dislike them but its really not that great apart from the hardcore fans of them!

+1 here, saw them live and thought they were another indie-by-numbers act. Just because the NME wet themselves collectively over this band it doesn't mean everyone else has to.

Agreed L&R are looking so much better than Glasto right now. I'm pretty gutted.

Wow man, you must have been HAMMERED given Arcade Fire played on Friday and The Who on Sunday.
What were you on? And can we have some?

It's a pretty good line-up IMHO. Very obviously R/L with a lot of repeated acts. Can't say it's given me any specific festival envy though, most of the bands I'd want to see do the rounds everywhere.
That said, if I had the money/time off work I'd go to every festival, so I guess I'm jealous of those going in that sense

Where does this figure come from?
For me Reading is cheaper; Campervan pass £75 Glastonbury, Campervan pass £20 Reading. And the taps work in the field at Reading!
I know there is much more at Glastonbury, but I must say that I prefer what Reading has announced.

if i could get band of horses, paramore, billy talent and/or limp bizkit at either fest i'm at this year, i'll be chuffed

I cleaned my hands of Reading after the mass tent-burning riot on Sunday night of 2008, but after hearing that The Libertines and Arcade Fire were playing... I just couldn't keep away! Only got a day ticket mind, you couldn't pay me to go and watch Blink182 or GNR.
