I just made a list of what I need to buy to take to Glasto '10 and it came to £130, which shocked me

Camping Light   £1
Camping Pillow   £1
Blanket          £1
Raincoat     £1
Keep dry bags    £1
Camping Mats    £1
Wellies              £10
Rucksack          £37.00
Toiletries           £5
Batteries (AA) £2 for 4 packs
Sleeping Bag £15.00
Tin Opener        £1
Food           £6
Drinks         £4
Alcohol        £40
Torch        £0.90

Now, I don't think I've got OTT I know I could cut it down but that means spending more at the festival

What's a food heron? Is it similar to a drinks cormorant?

Whats a food heron?

And why do you need a camping light AND a torch?

And why do you need a blanket and a sleeping bag?

Wouldn't you be spending on some of those things anyway, like toiletries and drinks? And don't you already have a tin opener?

Could come in handy if you could tame it, get you a coffee in the morning, fly down to see if theres a queue for the flushable jacks etc. I dont see any problems with bringing a heron to Glastonbury.

http://www.heronfoods.com/ perhaps

Oft seen in small towns, purvey "dubious" brands and also name brands (like Heinz soup) at knock down prices.

BTW New GoOutdoors leaflet has a 65L rucksack at £24.99, saving you a little cash. they've also got a kipping bag for £12.99.

£37 for a rucksack? let me point you in the direction of British Military Surplus:

100 ltr ex army bergen, £15
http://www.britishmi.../shopscr87.html

or even cheaper, the five quid kit bag
http://www.britishmi...shopscr259.html

you could train your heron to carry it. :P

That's the place, stick to the brands and you'll be safe. They have 4 cans of pepsi and stuff £1 and lots of other bargins.

Thanks for that I'll take a look :P

Can you get a lot of the £1 stuff bit by bit as you do your weekly shop?  That's what I tend to do, then you're not making extra journeys to get it all.  Most supermarkets have a reasonably priced range of camping odds and ends too.

Shop around for the more expensive bits, tesco do a much cheaper rucksack for instance.
