No - it's just that most people don't let it become a life and death issue for them. IMO

you should check the domestic violence rates after a celtic and rangers game then. will change your opinion.

cos heaven forbid that hundreds of millions of americans/algerians/slovenians are upset, as long as the mighty english punters get to see the last 16.

Are there hundreds of millions of Slovenians?  Or indeed Algerians?  And are there hundreds of millions of Americans who even watch the football?

The last time a match was shown on the pyramid stage the atmosphere was amazing,  the field was packed, so clearly people want to see it.  I dont remember there being any trouble whatsoever when we lost. if we lose we are in the perfect place to forget about it, and if we win its the best place to celebrate. i dont see the harm personally.

There is a large thread somewhere on this subject with lots of opinions stated but plenty of people did see or experience some very unpleasent scenes after football at glasto, didnt see it myself but plenty of others did.

I would have thought this would been limited, and not on the scale you would see outside of the festival where idiots where smashing cars built in the country of our opponents. I have a bit more faith in the regular festival goer
Ill try and find the thread

First time I've heard of such a thing in the six years since that game was on ever mentioned on these boards.

I do recall some unpleasent scenes the day after the concert, but they were limited to the f**king awful performance Oarsis put in.

As an aside, isn't great - absolutely great - that's there's not been the usual ration of "Are Oasis playing?" type threads this year?

Spot on. Why risk it? There's no need for it at all.

Anyone who think there wont be some trouble after the england game - win or lose - is incredibly naive. And dont give me the "but the glastonbury vibe will not allow for trouble!". Utter rubbish. The "glastonbury vibe" doesnt stop robbery does it?

Football at glastonbury is just fundamentally wrong. There is a massive thread somewhere about all this and I suppose it's not worth repeating it all again now.

Suffice to say I was in the right.

well not all of them, but...

usa - 307 million
algeria - 34 million
slovenia - 2 million

so providing it's usa and algeria that go out, there's bound to be at least 100 million people disappointed :P

i don't blame anyone on this forum for what's been said, i blame the daily mail, the media in this country in general, and the thousands of non football fans who come out of the woodwork every two years, cover themselves, their houses and their cars with st george crosses and act like tos$ers for two weeks because they think it shows how passionate they are about england, for the fact that everyone is talking about w*nk#rs and violence as soon as football is mentioned.

i've been a season ticket holder at my club since 2000, and attend a dozen away games a season as well, and have travelled to italy and spain to see my team play away in the champions league. thankfully, i've yet to see a fight. i did however see a couple of punches thrown early evening at the other stage on sunday last year. what does this tell us? not a lot. just putting some more cents in there.

:P

Suffice to say I was in the right.

I can't find all those comments about how it all kicked of in 2004 anywhere.  I was there in 2004, and remember a mellow if slightly down vibe after England lost.  The concensus was "we lost, nevermind, who cares, here comes the festival".  I didn't see any trouble then.  I remember posting on here after the festival - and there wasn't a mention of any trouble either.  In the intervening six years there has been no posts that I can recall mentioning any trouble.   And it's the sort of thing that would stick out - like the BNP camp on Pennards a few years back, that kind of thing.

Can you point me in the right direction?

They'd be something in the police report, wouldn't there?

I didn't see any trouble whatsoever, but I heard reports of some idiots who don't like football were causing trouble, and therefore got a deserved smack.

This may or may not be made up.

i wasnt even there in 04, but if there was a negative reaction (which i doubt) you can put into a simple equation

loss @ footy + oasis fans = cockwombles ahoy

seeing as vital element of that equation is not present this year it wont happen (and as i said, i doubt very much it happened in 04, it certainly didnt happen in 98)

I'm not sure, I guess in that massive thread we had a few months ago?

I do remember seeing a few slanging matches between scots and english. It seemed to be good humoured but these things quickly can get out of hand.

I just hate all the nationalism associated with international football matches. And I'd rather not see it at glastonbury.

Do you think people demanded the world cup be shown at the festival in 1970?

It's just another depressing example of the steady commercialisation of the festival.

Yeah we should ban it totally and let all the idiots invade the local area looking for a pub with a tv. That way when it kicks off its just the locals it will impact. Im sure the license wouldnt suffer at all.

I'm glad you agree that the probability that it will kick off is high.

You are right though, the football supporting morons would invade the surrounding area. I agree with you entirely.

It's a shame that people are such idiots.

If only Mr Eavis could hire another field, put a telly in there, put a massive barbed wire fence around it and charge all the football fans £10 to enter and keep them locked in there for a good 2 hours after the event so they can calm down. Icy cold water could be sprayed on them to help with this.
