So Sonisphere 2011 headliner?
Metal Hammer -
Metallica are putting something together that could rival Pink Flod’s legendary ‘The Wall’ show.
According to Metallica’s manager, the San Francisco thrashers are plotting something huge for next year’s touring schedule.
Speaking with Classic Rock, Mensch has said: “Let’s just say that next year you will see a Metallica tour that will blow your mind. They will only play in 10 cities but it will be a huge undertaking. It will be Metallica’s equivalent of ‘The Wall’.”
“Between you and me, some of it is recycling stuff that people did 25 years ago but no one’s smart enough to know that we recycled it.
“Saying something like: ‘I have this idea for us to play an equivalent of ‘The Wall’. So here’s some ideas so we can get the professionals in to they can tell me if I’m crazy or not.’ It’s like plotting out a canvas so someone else can fill it in.”

Provided the festival lasted that long, I think it was a given that Metallica were going to headline Soni 2011 from the moment it was conceived.

this sounds like nothing whatsoever to do with sonisphere.
if they are comparing it to pink floyd's "The Wall" tour it would be too big for any festival in the world. they obviously have something very special lined up, and lets face it, they can afford "very special"
this would say to me that they wont be playing ANY festivals in 2011, because it will be their "defining moment" even though imho their defining moment happened in '86/7 (mop/cliff/bigtime).
and it will most likely be somewhere pretty huge, possibly hyde park, or even knebworth, but could also mean 3 or 4 nights at wembley. 10 cities doesnt necessarily mean 10 gigs, it could mean residencies for 1 week at the biggest venues in all continents/countries.
it is also worth noting that "The Wall" was pretty much the catalyst for the waters/gilmour split that remains pretty much intact today, and was regarded by many as self indulgent and overblown.

i could actually take place at donington too, bearing in mind it can now hold 110,000 and has a place in the band's hearts. (although it wouldnt be in a city as per the press release)

maybe they should disappear for a while after 2011 though, they seem to have toured non stop for ages now including festivals. Hoping to see them like, but still, they seem to jut be everywhere...

then back better than ever!!
(thought I'd clarify seen as it sounded like I just wanted them to die or something.)
