V fest is so commercial hence why it'll never have as good a atmosphere as Reading or Leeds, Reading and Leeds is cull of passion for bands older albums aswell as new. Vs two headliners show how commercial it is. Kol didn't go Down well at Reading purely becuase they didn't play enough from aha shake heartbreak or youth and young manhood. Having cheryl cole at v sums it all up

How does something being commercial have a bearing on the atmosphere?

yes if you want teenagers running around burning stuff, throwing gas cannisters on tents, turning over toilets and being a pain in the arse as its theref irst weekend without mummy....then go to reading/leeds.

commercialised? there both very commercialised, but vast majority of festivlas is all about advertising. even glastonbury is commercialised to a certain extent.

and for someone who has been to all the major ones, I would say they are on a par for atmosphere. I personally find it very strange when people say r/l has a fantastic atmosphere, it did in the 90s but not now its become the trendy one to go to.

some years r/l has better lineups, some years v does. last years r/l won hands down, but this years v wins hands down. although rock werchter lineup is even better.

+1

Took the words right out my mouth Mr Time.

As for headliners at Reaing this year only Arcade Fire are the ones id like to see. Isnt GNR just bloody Axil Rose these days and Blink come on they have never in my eyes been a headlining act.

Never said it was. I have 5 friends who have all been to the big 4(Glastonbury, TITP, R or L and V)and everyone of them puts V at the bottom. That's not to say it is bad but just to say it is the worst of that bunch. Seems to be the general concensus on this site also.

Where else have you been?

I've done V, Reading and Glastonbury several times and i'd agree with that. To be honest Glastonbury is completely different to all the other festivals so it's unfair to compare them to Glasto. V, Reading and T are straight forward gigs in fields in effect. Glastonbury's a proper festival with so much more to do than just see the bands, it's open 24 hours a day with something always going on and best of all there's no Arena.

That said V was the first Festival I went to and I enjoyed it at the time for what it was. If you like the bands who are playing and intend to get your money's worth then that's cool.

I wouldn't go again because i'd get bored with the lack of variety but as has been said people go in their thousands each year so it must be doing something right.

The Rock Werchter line up is the best I have seen in a very long time for any festival.....

your madder than a bag of squirrels.

160 for 2 days of pop acts with a few 'rock'ish bands
185 for 3 days of well known rock acts aswell as alternatives

Reading and Leeds are just as commercial as V to be honest but they tend to attract a better crowd in terms of atmosphere and have better lineups.

did both reading & v last year and doing both this year despite saying i'd never go back to v...
reading wins hands down for atmosphere but v has an impressive lineup,if not a little mainstream. and if u search hard enough you find atmosphere, saw the streets in the arena which was immense!!!
reading wins but v's worth the laughs i reckon :P

........or if you want all the positive sides of that with very few of the negatives get yourself to Glasto next year.
