Just looked at the Latitude line-up on the official website and as far as I can tell the word "exclusive" isn't used anywhere near either Belle & Sebastian or The National (or Flo and the machine or Vampire Weekend, but we knew that already).  I was sure I read on here somewhere that either or possibly both WOULD be exclusives when announced.  Is the fact that they don't appear to be significant?

I've not seen a press release yet - that might have fuller words than what's on the Latitude website which might make things clearer.

But I'd said that Flo wouldn't be exclusive, but that B&S might be, not that either would definitely be an exclusive.

So if the official press release doesn't say that they are exclusive can we assume that they ARE playing somewhere else?  Or might they just not mention it?

Really hope that Belle and Sebastian aren't exclusives.

Cant see that any of these could be exclusives. Neither the bands nor the festival (much as I love Latitide) are big enough to dictate exculsivity

I do feel that Latitude have found their target audience - familiies, culture and comedy (which they excel at) They do not seem to be as focussed on the music these days (last couple of years proves it I think) as they had to be in the first few years, because that is not what their selling point is. First few years they had to have bigger headliners  to get people trough the doors (Arcade Fire, Franz Ferdinand, Snow Patrol, Sigure Ros, etc.)

Saying that, they do have some decent bands playing further down the order, such as the National, as there will be further announcemnents soon I expect. They do know decent music, but that is not what they are about

So Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds arent a bigger band than Snow Patrol, Franz Ferdinand, Sigur Ros or Arcade Fire? A band who have been around for 25 years and have released 14 fantastic, critically acclaimed albums? One of the finest song writers of his generation and arguable the tightest band around?

Jesus wept.

I suppose you think the Glastonbury headliners last year were a step backwards too? "Neil Young? he's ok, but he's no The Killers"

I think if you had Nick Cave up against Snow Patrol then more people would see Snow Patrol. Nick Cave may have been around for many a year but he simply doesn't have the modern radio 1 listeners ear, which seems pretty important to the average kid.

What a sad indictment of "people".  Don't get me wrong, Snow Patrol can hold a tune but Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds are soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much better live (and on record) than them.  But then I like to think that being on Radio 1 or in the "average kid['s]" ear has nothing to do with your "size" or magnitude as a performer or recording artist.  You don't hear much U2 or Stevie Wonder on Radio 1 either.  Or The Beatles.  Or Led Zeppelin.  And actually festivals aren't all about kids.  That's what the charts are for.  And Latitude seems to have specifically set itself up as an antidote to the teenager-driven dirge that Reading, Leeds and The V's have become.  As far as their target audience is concerned I feel sure that Nick Cave is at least as popular as Snow Patrol.

Not sure why I felt so ranty about this now.

Oh well....

I would go see The Cheeky Girls ahead of Snow Patrol.

My list of headliners was not meant to be be all of their 'big names", I agree Nick Cave is suberb, that was partly my point, I think they recognise quality. It is just a few years ago they went for big mainstream acts as I mentioned. They do not seem to do that these days

Cock cheese!

Those things may all be true but if you think the Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds are a bigger band than any of those you're frankly deluded.

They may not be bigger in recent record sales but in stature, originality and damn fine musicianship they put the other bands mentioned in the Shade.

Sadly, in modern times, to be successfull doesnt necessarily mean you have to be good.... just be championed by Radio1

Commenting on a earlier response though, I think I would watch the cheeky girls as well...

Their comedy/caberet tent often has some exclusive performers.  I'm rather excited about seeing a certain Emo Phillips - can't see him playing anywhere else. this summer.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds were 2nd top on the Pyramid at glastonbury last year. I don't see any of those other bands you are championing being awarded that honour.

I can't believe I am having to defend Nick Cave and the Seeds against Snow Patrol. On a glastonbury messageboard. f**k me.

the press release still isn't in - it was around midday the day after the anniouncement when we got it last year, so I'm guessing it'll be the same this time around.

When it arrives I'll scan it for any mention of exclusives and let you know.
