It is really hard to smuggle your own cans in-they check you as you go in. Unless you have tiny bottles they will find it

This may sound a bit strange and stupid but it is my first festival. Are you allowed to take alcohol into the campsite and if so is there anywhere near to buy it or should I bring my own from home

Hey not stupid at all!

You can take as much booze as you can carry, push or drag into the campsite - so long as it's not in glass bottles.

I'd say take more than you think you're going to need as we've always ran out - but maybe that's just us!

We had no problems getting alcohol into the arena last year. Vodka in a water bottle looks like water, we put a can in one of our friends hoods and didnt get stopped and we also ingeniously used a pringles tube! HAha! No one seemed to bat an eyelid!

A Hikers Pack is often called a Camel Bak. Camel Bak are the manufacturers but loads of people copy them and do similar things.

Tesco’s do a bargain one for only a few quid.

Its basically a small rucksack that has a waterproof bladder in it which you can fill with whatever drink you like and it has a pipe which runs up your back and lets you sup the drink hands-free.

Designed for mountain bikers to drink without stopping, they work better for festival goers who want to sneak drinks past security guards!

Be warned though, because the pipe is close to your mouth its very tempting to just keep on supping it and before you know it you’ve drunk two litres of vodka and orange and your dribbling in the corner while everyone else is enjoying the music 

My biggest piece of advice is to work out a way and then don't post it on here as the people from V do read this board - witness what happens when schedule planners are posted on here in the weeks running up to the fest. :P

Or do what I do (after years of mixed smuggling results, from walking in with a can in my hand, to being 'caught' with 6 cans stuffed in my hood and wellies!) and just accept that to get drunk during the day, you'll have to drink Richard Bransons beer.

Of course, you can off-set this cost by having a good few before you go to the arena, but with you likely to be starting your first of two twelve-hour drinking sessions (and this is probably my age), getting overly bladdered before going to the arena isn't for me.

The bonus for me, is that because I accept that I'll be buying tokens and drinking Carling all weekend, I don't need to take as much beer with me as some others, whereas you'll see people struggling with 3 or 4 cases of beer and their tents in the car park, by accepting the weekend will be a bit more expensive than you'd like, i can get away with just 24 cans for the weekend. Most of those will be for the Friday night, with a couple for breakfast on Saturday and Sunday and maybe a Saturday night night-cap (won't drink on Sunday night, generally stop drinking about 6pm so I've got 12 sober hours before driving home).

My method means I'm able to comfortably get all of my gear from car to site on a heavy-duty trolley with no real problem. That in itself is worth it. Of course, if you do run-out of beer, the chances are your neighbour will have too much with them, and for a few quid you'll be able to buy the odd can!

Good luck with the smuggle, but for me, it's not worth it (and if you have a significant amount of ale on you and you do get caught, you've got that dilemma, do you surrender your beer and never see it again, or do you go back to your tent (which might be a 40 minute round-trip, depending on where you've camped) and drop it off?

If the beer at V this year is £3.50 a pint (that's my guess), then you'll be looking (probably) at spending seventy-quid on beer at the festival, given you'll likely have a couple of cans for breakfast and maybe one or two as a night-cap when you get back in the evening, you'll be nicely wobbly.

SS.

They were REALLY strict last year - I even had the waist band of my trousers checked (by a bloke!!). However you can still be sneaky to an extent - if you are blessed / cursed with big boobs then a water bottle filled with beer between them is always a winner :P I also got some cheeky ones in wrapped up in my pac-a-mac bag.

Part of the reason I'm not going this year is the huge hike up of security - makes it a really expensive weekend and I really don't agree with not being allowed water in and having to pay high prices in the arena for it!

Have fun everyone who is going though!! xxx

Big Boobs are not, never have been and never will be a curse.

As far as i know, you could take soft drinks in they just checked them, maybe wrong though.

Smugglin in booze was easy for me, loose camo shorts, many pockets. I think the best me and my friend did was about 8 foster cans each,

Try going through when its busy, seem to be less strict.

"Big Boobs are not, never have been and never will be a curse.

The End. "

I second that notion

I found that you can get a couple of cans in each welly boot, i always managed to get beer into the arena that way. Also try getting the top off a water bottle without breaking the seal. Fill it with Vodka and replace lid, then just take your own cartons of juice or buy mixers in the arena. I have never really understood why you can't take in alcohol apart from the organisers wanting to rip you off at the bars. £3.50 for a plastic pint of Carling is disgusting considering ticket prices. We live in London and only pay £2.50 a pint of cider or lager. It be great to have a boycott of the arena bars, but i know that won't happen.

I think that you've answered your own question - it's telling that the big "not for profit festival" Glasto doesn't mind you taking your own booze anywhere :P

the hikers bag at decathalon is just like a "drip" or piss bag from the hospital lol....just a soft pouch with the tube comin from it and cost a cpl quid! was the best invention ever last year....soem of lads strapped em round their waist under their shirt they just didnt fill it to the full 2 litre so it didnt look obvious and stayed flat to their stomach!

The Camelbak / Platypus hydration bags are great and its what I always use but sometimes they stop even them. At the end of the day it depends on the security bloke and how bothered they are, if they are all adrenalined up because they have a yellow jacket and batteries for their torch you ain't gonna get a twix past them, if they are just being sound like most are then you can walk in with most things. Just don't get angry if you get caught, its part of the festival experience, just walk off and try another entrance. For the most part though they are bods doing a job and as long as you don't walk in with a bottle of Glenmorangie under one arm and a six pack of cider in the other you should be ok.

They have to let you take water in but be warned we got stopped with a bottle of Fanta one year because 'its water only', ignored the litre of Vodka in the backpack!
Also on the cans front the security did remove a bloke back in 2007 who was stood near us with a can in his hand (at the disabled area - how obvious can you be) during Goo Goo Dolls.

Last tip, if you get hydration pack / Camelbak then make sure you check the bite valve is secure and someone isn't on the end of it when you move. There's nothing worse than showering yourself and your mate in vodka & coke because your dancing like a loonie to The Specials!

BINGO! Use Colostomy or Urostomy bags. Fill one with brandy, JD or beer and attatch to leg or stomach. Stewards are hardly going to check whats inside it.
