So why is everyone moaning at Sonisphere then? Iron Maiden are equal of AC/DC and Rammstein piss all over RATM as a live band.  Throw in Alice Cooper, Iggy, Slayer and Anthrax and you have the basis of a really good line up?

I agree that several of the bands that were announced last week where pretty dire but download and any other festival will have bands like that?

I will be the first to moan if the sub headliners are Manowar as I was last year when Heaven and Hell were announced but I honestly think that this years line up will be equal if not better than Download.

Amen.

The announcement might be a little delayed, but the festival is 5 months away, how many bands have Download announced?  About the same, and it's only 3 months away.  People need a bit of patience.  Also the announcement before Easter last year was NIN, Anthrax,Airbourne and Killing Joke, who aren't a bunch of nobodies... and the delayed announcement last year was the one promised after easter, which technically did still come after Easter, just a good few weeks afterwards  :P

Anyways I think it could be Slash, he said on his Myspace earlier:

"I'm still waiting for confirmation on ALL the tour dates. I don't want to just post some, so just hang in there a little longer."

In regards to his upcoming EU Tour in the Summer, it could be possible that it's him Soni are waiting to announce, but can't as he is holding it back.

Just speculating though,

Slash will be announced for Download next week, he's already said he was in talks to play

Although I do think theres a strong chance he could play Sonisphere as well

Mate i agree AC/DC and iron Maiden are equall in stats. But f**k off 'Rammstien piss all over RATN live.' Rage against Machine are amazing live what are you talking about. They were immense at reading.

don't get me wrong i havent see rammsiten and there ment to be insane, BUT u cnt insult rage! Besides Rage are much better song writers and i atualy enjoy there music. i cuddnt imagin then writting the song 'pussy'...
personally i'd rather see rage, but if you weigh it all up they are also equall...

Anyway yes its great that they've thrown in Iggy and alice but download has Them Crooked vultures, Bullet, Deathtones, stone sower And a 3rd headliner! face it downloads better. then again tis their 30th year so it would be.

To be honest we shuddnt moan at soni being less good than download this year, just like we shuddnt moan at reading being less good than glasto. when a festival is having its 30th or 40th year better bands will want to play for the prestige

Well you never know, everyone thought Rammstein would be at Download, as Download have been after them for years, and look how that turned out.

and @cheeseisamazing

I think Rammstein have the better stage show/setup, but I agree RATM are amazing, and better song writers. HOWEVER RATM are doing a massive free gig the week before download, which makes their DL appearance as a headliner a poor booking imo, and sort of a wasted slot.  I'll be seeing RATM at the free gig so have no desire to see them at DL.  AC/DC and Maiden even out, and Aerosmith are pretty meh imo,  the undercard for both are pretty even at the moment imo, but both still have alot to announce so we shall see...

However at the end of the day we could all argue till the cows come home about who has the better line up. Personally I think both are very strong, which is great, and people will obviously have a favourite depending on musical taste.  I don't think either festival is going to suck that's for sure and I dont get the whole side taking thing people do.  Lets just wait til the Summer I say :P

I wouldn't have said RATM's slot at Download is wasted - only 40,000 tickets available for the free gig, and something like 122,000+ applied? A significant chunk of them will happily shell out to see them at Download. Even though they have to pay, they're still getting bang for their buck.

Can't help but think the announcement of the Download announcement delay is rubbing salt in the Sonisphere wounds though, and not just good, well-informed information?

Whatever the case, i got a bad feeling that the Sonisphere organisers are scrabbling about trying to book something that will get the punters genuinely excited.  Can't help but think the reason for the delay is that it was supposed to be Manowar being announced....... but then Soni realised the general concensus online wasn't terribly favourable.

Hopefully they're checking down the back of the sofa for the phone number of Faith No More's agent  :P

Yep thats what i reckon. Best be 'Faith No More' otherwise i wont bother going this year. Probably will see the return of Alice In Chains aswel this year. Also noticed on twitter 'sonisphere' said they were listening to cypress hill or somthn along those lines....so thats a clear hint they will prob be there also. Next announcement is defently make or break for sonisphere.

If it's not FNM I will cry into my tea. Come on Sonisphere, listen to the fans!

I mean Manowar might be comedy but, come on...

Also on the slash rumour thing remember this.  Alice Cooper's Drummer is also the drummer for Slash's solo tour, and Alice Cooper will be at Sonisphere.  Alice and Iggy Pop also both did a song with Slash and both will be at Sonisphere  :P

Maybe there planning to pull a really bad move or awesome move by announcing at the same time as download to try and out do them but it all depends on who got who but even tho i like soni better then DL i think it might be a bad move for soni if that is wht there planning :S

andy copping has said on his twitter that they have at least 19 bands to announce next monday. so if that is soni's tactic - they would need something huge, and I dont see that happening tbh.

booking bands is hard you know.

oh, wait - copping has secured 22 this week ready for an announcement he confirmed for Monday a couple of weeks ago. (To be fair, he did originally say it would be on the 15th)

Sonisphail indeed......
